2018 Spring Team Preview: Sparta Highland Fighting Scots
Team Name: Sparta Highland Fighting Scots
Head Coach: Donovan Kline
Division: II
2017 Record: 15-11
Conference Record: 4th
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 8/3
Team Strengths:
- Pitching
- Leadership
- Defensive Versatility
Coach Outlook: “Highland returns 11 letter-winners from a young and inexperienced 2017 team. The Scots will need to have some arms step up to support the top returning pitchers from 2017 (JR Mack Anglin, SR Sam LoPiccolo, SR Kyle Munday,) to round out the pitching staff. Senior catcher Lane Ballard will lead a talented group of catchers behind the plate, while senior Matty Reid will anchor the infield. Junior Reese Weisenfluh (.342 BA, 17 R,) and SR Drew Duncan (.339 BA, 12 R,) will be expected to use their athleticism in the outfield, and on the base paths. The Scots will need to find consistency in the lineup; JRs Tate Tobin (.389 BA, 1.082 OPS, 7 triples,) Mack Anglin (.299 BA, 19 RBI, 7 Doubles,) & Clay Matthews (.458 BA, 1.033 OPS,) will be called upon to kick start the offense.”
PBR Outlook: With eight starters, three arms and 11 lettermen returning, coach Donovan Kline and the Fighting Scots are a team to watch in 2018.
