2/27/22

A highly regarded prep arm out of Ohio, the book on Anglin has long been that the stuff is lively, but he needed to harness it more consistently to reach his sizable potential. He did well in starting to dispel those concerns on opening weekend, working ahead against Indiana with a mid-90s fastball and putting the Hoosiers away with a pair of high spin breaking pitches. Working from a high three-quarter arm slot, his heater sat in the 92-95 range, peaking at 96 and showing good horizontal run. Big and physical at 6-foot-4, 220-pounds, there's some effort in the delivery but he was able to hold the velo for the duration of the start. Sharp and biting with two-plane break and a spin rate between 2850-2905 rpm, he threw copious amounts of sliders – at least a plus pitch. Another offering in the 2900 rpm range, his power curveball is thrown in the 79-83 mph velo band and he also flashed a usable changeup with good arm-speed. If he's able to continue to pitch off his fastball, the righthander could come off the board significantly higher than he did last summer (Washington – 13th), especially when factoring in the attrition we've seen at the position thus far.

Cape Cod- The strong-armed righthander was selected in the 13th round by the Nationals this July, but went unsigned. He will return to Clemson where he could develop into one of the top college arms for the 2022 draft with continued improvement of his command. It remains a work in progress due to a high effort delivery and violent release. He's also a short-strider that doesn't use much of his lower half. At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds there has never been a question about his stuff. It was on full display during a July 22 start against Cotuit when Anglin struck out six, allowed two hits and one walk in four innings. He drove his fastball downhill from a high three-quarter slot at 91-95 mph with spin rates in the 2300-2400s, showed a low-80s hammer curve that flashed plus and consistently spun a plus-plus slider in the 85-87 range. He also flashed an average changeup at 87 mph and 1971 rpm. After a mild breakthrough for Clemson this past spring with a 3.99 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 56.1 innings, but 33 walks, Anglin walked just three batters in 12.2 IP on the Cape this summer. He also struck out 16, while posting a 0.00 ERA.

2021 MLB DraftA high follow in high school, Anglin made it to campus only to see his freshman season ended by COVID-19 after just four appearances (three starts). Draft-eligible this year, he broke through a bit with a 3.99 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound has the most electric stuff on the Clemson staff, but issued 33 walks and his control remains a work in progress due to a long arm action and efforty delivery. He has three pitches with elite metrics in a 93-95 fastball that bumps 98 with exceptional spin rates, an 82-84 hammer curveball that flashes plus-plus, and a plus slider in the mid 80s. The curveball can get into the 3100 rpm range while the slider shows 2900. He also has decent feel for an 88 mph changeup that can become another swing-and-miss pitch.

10/06/16

6-foot-5, 175-pound very projectable frame with room to fill out. One of the top talents in his class. Arm action is long and loose, while working through a high-3/4 slot. Has some stiffness to his delivery but is repeatable. Ran his fastball up to 90 mph while consistently sitting 87-88 mph. Showed obvious confidence in his breaking ball as he threw it in any count. The pitch has good depth and sharp action on a 10/4 plane. Consistently was in the zone throughout his outing.
