Senior Superlatives: Top Speed

PBR Georgia Staff

It has been a busy few weeks for Prep Baseball Report and PBR Georgia regarding the Class of 2020 and the approaching 2020 MLB Draft. First, we had the update of the
2020 National Rankings, with Georgia being well-represented, followed by the combined High School, Junior College and College 2020 Draft Board. Extending over the next few weeks, we are going to dive into the 2020 Georgia rankings and give our take on the prospects who possess the top tools in the state. Yesterday, we began by looking at the top-5 left-handed bats, top-5 right-handed bats, and top power hitters in the state. Today, we look at the top-5 power hitters in the state's 2020 class.

Top Speed

Nate McCollum OF / DUTCHTOWN, GA / 2020

McCollum is a live bodied dual-sport athlete from Dutchtown.  The compact and strong right-handed hitting outfielder can really turn on the jets and has promising bat-speed as well.  Originally committed to North Carolina State, McCollum has decided to say home and is now set to attend Georgia Tech to play football and baseball next year.

Caleb Ketchup SS / Holy Innocents' Episcopal, GA / 2020

Georgia commit. #1 ranked 2020 SS in GA. Ketchup plays well above his 5-foot-9, 145 pound listing. Shows gap-to-gap power to all fields, as evidence by a triple to RF. 4.0 on the turn, with a slight hesitation. Launches from backside and has barreled balls every time we have seen him. Flashed smooth infield actions. Athleticism surely plays on both sides.

Darryl Buggs OF / Heritage (Conyers), GA / 2020

UAB commit, 2020 OF Darryl Buggs (DRB/Heritage) adds to the list of yet another DRB player who flat out balls. At 6-1, 170 pounds, he doesn’t look overly big on the field, but he’s twitchy, shows bat speed, and is constantly hunting for extra bases. If you’re on defense, it’s nerve wracking having him on the basepaths, having to constantly make sure he stops his feet. He’s dangerous when he gets on base, and with the combination of his plate discipline and speed, headaches happen quite often against him.

Dominick McIntyre OF / 3B / Peachtree Ridge, GA / 2020

One word comes to mind watching McIntyre play: impact. It’s not just the impact speed that he produced during his 60-yard dash (6.57), it is the way that speed plays during the game. He showed the ability to be on base and pressure the defense as soon as he left the box. McIntyre is an aggressive runner with instincts, and he shows the good doubles-type power to all fields and always leaves the box looking for three. Defensively, his arm plays best in center and left fields. He is also serviceable defensively in the infield, but his speed makes give him more value in the outfield.

Brady Moore SS / Pickens , GA / 2020

Moore is a strong bodied middle of the field prospect.  He posses above average bat-speed and a strong run tool.  The Coastal Carolina Commit is a part of strong Pickens County High School team.
