Prep Baseball Report

PBR FL: Top 19 of 2019

Doug Freeman
Florida Executive Director

To wrap up the decade and 2019, we take a look back at 19 things that trended in Florida both on PrepBaseballReport.com as well as Twitter and Instagram. As is the case most years, rankings lead the way in the top viewed on both Twitter and Prep Baseball Report. Today we look at everything you were interested in in 2019 which culminated in 8.5 million total impression across platforms.

Rankings

While some love to hate rankings, there is no debating (or maybe nothing but debating) that they catch your eye and interest. Our staff works tirelessly all year to see more games and events than anyone else in the state and that shows in the consistent engagement every time we update a ranking.

The most viewed of the year in Florida was the most recent, the class of 2020. You can view all of the rankings HERE.

Lakepoint

2019 saw Prep Baseball Report take over operations at the prestigious Lakepoint Sporting Complex in Cartersville, GA. This state of the art complex played host to several of the nation’s premier events including the National Program Invitation, Future Games and more. You can check out the full list of 2020 events, which will sell out, HERE

Draft Coverage

The draft coverage is like all of our coverage across the country. We have staff out all year, and especially in the spring, locked in on all potential draft prospects. The coverage is also cross referenced by Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt as the PBR national staff and Florida staff work to piece together who may go where as the process comes together. Both national office and local scouts put together full, in-depth draft reports on players in high school, junior college and high end college players. You can check out all of the draft coverage in the Draft HQ.

Future Games

The Future Games is the top uncommitted event in the country and 2019 saw that event move to Lakepoint. The move added even more colleges in attendance, seeing over 315 coaches and scouts come through the gates. Team Florida would go 2-1 on the high school side, while the Juniors side would go 2-1 as well. So far, Team Florida has seen 10 players commit from the event. Eight from the high school side and two from the Juniors side. Team Florida has seen 38 of the previous 41 players from 2017 and 2018 sign with schools already. To be eligible to receive an invite to this event, you must attend an event in Florida to qualify. Check out all the upcoming events HERE.

Preseason All State

While 2019 saw some weather interfere with the game play, it did not diminish the talent or the amount of attention the event received. Boasting players in the top 10 of every class from 2019-2022, No 1 from 2019 Hunter Barco and No 1 from 2022  Brandon Barriera really stole the show. There were over 40 standouts from the event and the statistical analysis and standouts were two of the top viewed stories of the year. This year is expected to be no different and will be live broadcast via Twitter. Request you Invite

Preseason Classic

The Preseason Classic has quickly become the top preseason event in the country. The 2018 Preseason Classic, which featured six high school teams, was attended by more than 130 professional scouts over the three day event. 2018 saw a pair of first rounders in Mason Denaburg and Carter Stewart throw back to back. Also featured in the first Preseason Classsic was 2rd round pick Lyon Richardson, as well as Brandon Howlett, David Luethje, Elijah Cabell, Nick Pogue, Brady Allen and Noah Dickerson who were all taken in the 2018 MLB Draft as well.

The 2019 Preseason Classic featured not only high school teams, but Junior Colleges as well. Led by another first round pick in Brennan Malone, the 2019 teams saw 13 total players taken in the 2019 MLB Draft.  Check out the 2020 schedule release here.

Player of the Week/Player of the Year

In 2019 we saw a partnership with PDQ who would help sponsor the PDQ Player of the Week. Each week players were submitted for consideration and would be chosen from our PBR staff.  This culminated in a player of the year, which was Brennan Malone. You can check out all of the player’s of the week here.

All State Team

The PBR All State Team takes considerations from coaches around the state as well as all of our staff who has been out all year at games. We use that information as well as stats from around the state to compile a first and second team All State. This was yet another one of the highest viewed pieces on the site and on all platforms. Check out the All State Teams.

Underclass Games

The Underclass Games is one of the main precursors to the Future Games. This event has featured countless number of players who have gone on to commit to schools across the county. We hosted several throughout the state this year and they were consistently some of the most highly viewed content on the site.

Preseason Power25

The Preseason Power25 highlights each team in a full breakdown leading up to the season. Each team highlights top players, an x-factor and an overall outlook of the season. Last season, IMG Academy started and stayed at No 1 overall throughout 2019. Check out their preview here.

Florida Tournament Coverage

PBR Tournament and PBR Florida worked to put on several top tournaments in both the summer and fall. Florida saw over 70 teams in the Florida State Games and over 150 total between all tournament. The Florida State Games and Summer Championships saw enormous attention paid to the daily scout blogs. Check out Day One of the 14/15u standouts from the Florida State Games here.

Scout Days

2019 saw teams from across the state invite PBR to partner in a tryout or scout day. Coverage from Top Tier Roos led the way, with FTB, Midland Swarm, Power, Dodgers Scout Team and more right behind. Many of the standouts can be seen in updated rankings as well as each individual standouts article.

JUCO/College Coverage

2019 saw an expanded amount of Junior College coverage not only in Florida, but across the country. In Florida, scouts bounced around the state covering top teams and matchups as well as ranking some of the top players. 2020 looks to do more of the same as you can check out the JUCO Wire for coverage from around the country. We also covered numerous of the top college players and programs and can follow along with the College Crosscheck.

Academy Baseball League

The Academy World Series launched in 2019 with top Academies from around the country. The event was followed closely both on the site and on Twitter. At the end of the season PBR Florida announced the launching on the ABL in 2020 in which was on of the most viewed tweets of the year.

Florida Spring Training

2019 saw the first Florida Spring Training with 12 Candian Academies as well as TNXL and Elite Squad Academy. The event featured many of the top players in Canada and drew scouts, coaches and an enormous amount of interest on all platforms. The event is expected to expand to 30 teams in 2020. Check them out here

High School Coverage

The high school coverage is one of the most vital times of the year. We see players all over the state, regardless of location, and compile game recaps from around the state. We have staff across the state checking out games near you and appreciate the support shown from all the local communities. Check out the game recaps from 2019 here.

Top Prospect Games

Our localized gameplay events gave players all over the state a chance to showcase more than just the pro-style workout, but gameplay as well. These events are quality local events and well received qualifiers for all other events in the state and across the country.

Super60

While Dante Visconti and Tommy Benson were the only one representing Florida, Benson took home the top exit velocity of 111 mph. The event is one of the top draft events in the country and brings over 150 professional scouts indoors from across the country. Check it out here.
