PBR FL ProCase- Two Ways
May 30, 2018
Sunday, May 20, Prep Baseball Report hosted its third annual Florida ProCase at IMG Academy in Bradenton. Since launching in 2016, the invite-only showcase has quickly become one of the most prestigious events for area juniors giving them a platform to perform in front of the scouting community as they head into their final offseason before their senior year.
The previous two ProCase events have heralded some of the state’s top prep prospects in the following year’s draft. Sam McMillan and Freddy Tarnok are two of the five players from the inaugural showcase selected in the 2017 draft, and Mason Denaburg, Andres Antonini, Robby Martin, and Luca Tresh are all examples of last year’s ProCase-ers preparing themselves for next month’s draft. Denaburg, namely, is candidate to be taken in the first round and is presently ranked No. 9 on our PBR Draft Board, that includes both college and high school draft-eligible prospects.
This year may have herald one of the deepest pools of talent in the events short, but very successful, history. Over the course of the next week we will break down every single player as follows: Outfielder, Infielders, Catchers, Two-Way Players, Pitchers. We will then announce the top uncommitted and top overall performers. Today, we take a look at the two-way players:
Hylan Hall OF / RHP / TNXL Academy, FL / 2019Florida recruit, the 6-foot-2, 190 pound OF/RHP has an extremely well put together, lean and athletic frame. Shows a quick arm on the mound, working 87-89 mph and showed a 73-75 mph changeup and a 73-75 mph curveball. He struck out one in his one inning of work. Defensively, he moves well and showed a well above average arm, throws were on line and had carry. Covers a lot of ground, running a 6.54 60 yard dash. There is a ton of athleticism, this shows offensively, The swing has some steepness, but he has a lot of present bat to ball skills and generates above average bat speed and power potential. Present tools and athleticism with an extremely high ceiling.

Ben Gilbert OF / LHP / Lake Wales, FL / 2019Ole Miss recruit, he continues to make big strides psychically and continues to translate to both sides of the ball. Offensively, he is athletic, running a 6.93 60. He comes through the ball and tracks down balls efficiently in the outfield. Throws are accurate with carry. The added strength really translated well offensively. He continues to stay compact and level, but showed ability to drive the ball through the gap. He has a double and a single and stayed on time and on the barrel. On the mound, he worked 86-88 mph, with more 88 than 86. The fastball has sneaky late life. The 3/4 arm action is easy and effortless, with the athleticism translating very well to the mound. Showed a feel for a changeup at 78 mph and a short slider at 69-70 mph. Overall, he is a true two-way talent and on the upward trend.

Kevin Martin 1B / RHP / St Brendan, FL / 2019Florida recruit. Big, strong frame. He has a tor-tap load and a short, simple swing that generates bat bat and present strength. Flashed above average power, especially to the pull side. Exit velocity of 89 mph. On the mound, worked mostly 86-89 touching 90 mph. Working with a simple delivery, from a 3/4 to high 3/4 slot, the arm action is compact. There is present strength in the lower half and can see the velocity making a big jump with better use from the lower half. Also showed a curveball and changeup at 73-75 mph, with the curveball showing some depth and some feel for the changeup. Clearly there are present tools and strength and will be a follow going forward. |
Casey Daiss RHP / 1B / TNXL Academy, FL / 2019Rankings StateRank: 93 / POS: 25
Uncommitted, he has continued to become more lean a 6-foot-4, 225 pounds. Offensively, the left handed hitter has some length, but natural loft and strength, with an exit velocity of 87 mph. He has continued to trend in the upward direction velocity wise. Working 87-88 touching 90 mph, he works very deliberately. The stuff could continue to play up with improved rhythm and pace in delivery as mechanically he has cleaned up the arm action and works in line down the mound. The curveball has some shape at 78-79 mph, but the fastball is heavy and as he continues to log innings should continue to improve. |
Cal Gilliam 1B / RHP / Columbia, FL / 2019Rankings StateRank: 102 / POS: 3
Uncommitted, standing at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds he has a big, strong frame. On the mound he worked 83-84 mph with a 73 mph changeup and a 66 mph curveball. Defensively, he is first base only, but moves well and is a solid defender at first. Stood out offensively, working gap-to-gap, with present power and an advanced approach. Showed some pull side power in BP, 88 mph exit velo and had a hard hit out and a single in the game.
