Ohio Insider: Fall Prospect Program - Week 1 at Ohio Wesleyan University (Teams 5-8)

We would like to thank all who participated in the Central Ohio Fall Prospect Program at Ohio Wesleyan. This was an opportunity for the class of 2017 and 2018 squads to be put on college radars.

Team 5 vs Team 6

TOP PERFORMERS TEAM 5

  • David Hughes, OF/LHP, Olentangy Orange, 2020- A young, athletic prospect that had a good showing on the mound and at the plate. On the mound the southpaw was in the zone consistently with his 70-73 mph fastball that had natural run to it. Curevball was sharp with some depth at 63-66 mph. At the plate he showed good rhythm during his loading sequence and feel for the strike zone. Above average batspeed for his age. Found a way to get on base more often than not.
  • Tyler Croskey, 1B/3B, Ashland, 2018- A physical prospect that was a force at the plate all day. Had multiple hits on the day including, two extra base hits. Was very discipline at the plate and showed knowledge of the strike zone. Hammered balls that were left up in the zone. 
  • Parker Brown, OF, Mohawk, 2018- Had a solid day at the plate recording multiple hits, including a RBI single to the left field. Very short, compact swing and get the barrel through the zone quickly. Also really impressed with his arm strength from the outfield.
  • Evan Ulrich, C, Buckeye Valley, 2020- Had a very good showing behind the plate. Brings an unusual ammount of athleticism to the position. All his skills are considerably above average for his age. Recorded an in game pop time of 2.12. Feet and transfer are quick and throws tended to be accurate.
  • Drew Peterson, RHP/3B, Canton Central Catholic, 2018- On the mound he has some average tempo to a delivery he is able to repeat. A tall and fall type that sat 74-77 mph with his fastball. Curveball was hit or miss, when on it was sharp. Solid frame at 6-foot-1 with room to fill out.
  • Beau Foster, RHP/OF, Olentangy Liberty, 2018- Had a productive day at the plate and on the mound. He was able to work his fastball to both sides of the plate, sitting 73-76 mph. The pitch had some cut and sink to it when down in the zone. His breaking ball was playable at 63-64 mph. Had a changeup in his arsenal and also ripped an RBI double at the plate.

TOP PERFORMERS TEAM 6

  • Joey Procop, C, Twinsburg HS, 2020- The young catcher had a solid approach at the plate all day. He started off Game 1 with a bang, as he laced a bases clearing double into the gap. The righty has a simple approach, mechanically and lets his level bat path and strength go to work. Behind the plate he showed some flexibility to his hips with the ability to get his thumb under the low strike. Recorded an in game pop time of 2.23.
  • Keaton Stankowski, 3B/RHP, St. Charles HS, 2019- The 6-foot-2, long limbed prospect sat 74-78 mph off the mound with his fastball, and displayed a curveball that showed signs of sharpness. A strike-thrower that was able to consistently pound the zone and get batters out.
  • Matthew Lang, SS, Lancaster HS, 2019- Lang had a big day that included three hits and multiple RBI’s. The righty works out of a middle away approach and didn’t miss when he got a pitch on the outer half, lacing two line drives in the 4-hole.
  • Michael Gordish, RHP, Westerville North, 2018- On the mound the righty has a quicker tempo to his delivery. Has regular effort in his delivery. Does a nice job of creating momentum towards home plate with his lower half. Working through a high-¾ slot his fastball sat 76-78 mph with slight run. Curveball showed a gradual, 11/5 break to it while sitting 64-65 mph. Also flashed a changeup near fastball armspeed.
  • Patrick Burke, LHP, Hilliard Darby, 2018- The southpaw didn’t light up the radar gun, sitting 69-73 mph with his fastball but was able to work the pitch to both sides of the plate. Also spins a breaking ball with some sharpness to it at 60-63 mph. Had

TOP PERFORMERS TEAM 7

  • Blayne Robinson, 1B/LHP, Defiance, 2018- Was the most impressive player of the day. Has a very athletic, 6-foot-5 frame and showed attributes that make him attractive as a position player and on the mound. At the plate he showed efficient mechanics and remained fluid throughout his swing. Had four hits on the day. Shows signs of being a high-level first baseman down the road. Above average runner as well. On the mound, he has obvious looseness to his arm with a fastball he ran up to 79 mph. His slider and curveball are both well above average breakers for his age. Definite follow in the 2019 class.
  • Ryan Callahan, RHP, Bexley, 2019- Is interesting on the mound but was more impressive with his performance at the plate. A smooth swinging righty that recorded three hits on the day including a triple and a double. Runs very well as we’ve had him at a 6.88 60-yard dash and ran an in game 4.35 from home to first. Advanced strength and batspeed for his age.
  • Grant Van Winkle, 3B, Granville, 2020- A young, talented prospect that had a multi hit day including a double to the right-center gap. Obvious strength through the zone as the ball jumps off his bat when he finds the barrel.
  • Zachary Mon, RHP, Westland, 2019- A toolsy position player with a quick bat and above average glove skills. Runs well, recording a 4.4 in game home to first time. Consistently found the barrel during his multi hit day. Also was up to 76 mph off the mound with a very sharp 11/5 breaking ball.
  • Jack Mancini, LHP, Circleville, 2018- The southpaw had some of the better stuff we saw all day. Fastball had respectable velocity, topping out at 77 mph and had heavy run at times. His breaking ball showed good depth with mild, but sharp downward action. Also showed a changeup that had a similar look to his fastball.

TOP PERFORMERS TEAM 8

  • Vincent Ronnebaum, RHP, St. Charles, 2018- Athletically built at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. The righty had an impressive showing on the mound. Working out of a high-¾ slot he showed command of his 76-79 mph fastball. Showed the ability to start use his breaking ball as a freeze pitch or get batters to chase.
  • Louis Lipthratt, RHP, Dublin Scioto, 2018- The right-hander won’t overwhelm you with velocity and doesn’t have off the charts stuff but showed solid pitchability. Used all three of his pitches in any count, while keeping hitters off balance for most of the day. Secondary stuff is above average and fastball was up to 75 mph.
  • Tyler Chumita, SS, Hilliard Darby, 2018- A very solid baseball player. Tools aren’t loud but does all the little things at a high level. Positions himself well at shortstop and repositioned himself as he read swings. Very good inside his funnel with above average lateral mobility. Very mechanically efficient at the plate and any added strength as he matures will translate to added pop. A cerebral hitter that has an approach and stays within it. Prototypical leadoff hitter.
  • Jordan Fields, SS/C, Pickerington Central, 2018- Was very impressive with his performance behind the plate. Above average athleticism for the position. Showed very solid receiving skills and the ability to block. Had in game pops of 2.13-2.19. With his athleticism pop times should improve with refined transfer skills.
  • Joshua Feyh, C, Teays Valley, 2018- Very physical prospect at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds and it translates to his game at the plate. Had a multi hit day with a few loud outs. Has obvious strength through contact, and his flat path allows him to find the barrel often.
