November 29, 2017
PBR's first scout day in Arizona took place on November 12th at Sunrise Mountain HS. All players in the A's organization had an opportunity to #BeSeen and evaluated by PBR at a reduced rate. If your organization is interested in hosting a PBR Scout Day reach out to [email protected] or DM @PBRArizona on Twitter.
PRUITT BROTHERS STEAL THE SHOW
-2018 RHP Trevor Pruitt (Sunrise Mountain) isn't the most imposing physical specimen with his 5-foot-11 160-pound frame, but his combination off stuff and command made him clearly the most advanced pitching prospect in attendance. Dominating the bottom of the zone with three pitches and advanced feel using a simple delivery with clean arm action and 3/4 slot, Pruitt worked 84-87, T88 with good late life on his fastball. His 64-67 mph curveball showed consistent rotation and good depth, while his straight changeup was 73-74 with good arm speed. Pruitt's feel on the mound and command of three pitches make shim ready to help a college program right away.
-2018 SS Tyler Pruitt (Sunrise Mountain) was easily the top infield defender in attendance with easy actions and good carry on his throws from SS (81 mph infield veto). With a contact oriented approached and good rhythm in his swing, Pruitt has a chance to be a contributor offensively as well. His athletic 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame has plenty of room to fill out and become a stronger, faster athlete at the next level; 7.01 60-yard dash. Can help most college programs in need of a 2018 SS and will only get better as he develops physically.
2019 two-Way lefty impresses
-2019 LHP/1B Brock Arnold (Mountain Ridge) stood out with his lean 6-foot, 160-pound frame and plenty of room to add strength as he matures. Two-way prospect is a strong follow as LHP and 1B and one of the top prospects at the event regardless of class. On the mound Arnold works with a compact delivery, explosive lower half and generates plenty of arm speed from a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 75-77, T78 flashing good downhill plane. There’s plenty more velo to come as he adds mass and strength to his frame. Sweeping 2-8 breaking ball showed consistent rotation at 63-66. Showed advanced feel for fading changeup with good arm speed at 71-73. At the plate, hits from tall, open setup with leg-kick trigger. Creates very little separation, using only a small negative move with his hands. Shows solid bat speed and makes an aggressive move with his lower half as he looks to lift the ball with a high two-hand finish. 79 mph exit velocity will increase rapidly with physical maturation. Defensively, his athleticism currently profiles best to 1B where he moves well and registered 76 mph infield velocity. Also worked out in outfield where he threw 78 mph. 7.58 60-yard dash with good running form. Has a chance to become a high-level prospect with significant increase in physical strength.
young infielders stand out
-2021 SS Barrett Skaugrud (Sandra Day O'Connor) turned in a similar performance to his showing at the Fall Prospect Showcase with one exception, an improved arm action. One of the top prospects in his class, Skaugrud moved well on defense and showed off his extremely advanced swing, but his focus on improving his arm on the infield appears to be producing some results and will dictate what level prospect he becomes.
-2021 IF/RHP Nicholas Lustig's (Sunrise Mountain) hitting ability and bat speed stood out. He also showed solid infield actions for a young player and reached the upper 70's on the mound. With a very young 5-foot-8, 130-pound frame, it will be interesting to see how his body develops in the coming years.
-2021 IF/RHP Dawson DeHerrera (Sunrise Mountain) is yet another promising young prospect from the same high school. Reaching 79 mph with his fastball and swinging the bat well, DeHerrera is a solid two-way follow moving forward,
2019 outfielders
-2019 OF Tate Childers (Mountain Ridge) had probably the best looking frame at the event. Standing 6-foot-3, 185 -pounds with plenty of room to continue adding strength, Childers has a chance to become a physical specimen. A solid athlete (7.01 60-yard dash), Childers made lots of loud contact (91 mph exit velocity) despite some crudeness in his swing and has a chance to become a solid prospect with some refinement.
-2019 OF Adam Barretta stood out offensively at the event, showing impressive bat speed and making lots of loud contact to the pull side. Hits from wide, balanced setup with a flat bat path and some natural loft. There is some crudeness to the swing, but the combination of strength and bat speed make him an intriguing offensive prospect. 90 mph exit velocity. Opens up very early on throws from outfield, turning in 81 mph OF velo and 7.34 60-yard dash; could also profile to 1B.
-2019 OF Andrew Talamante (Brophy Prep) turned in the second best 60-yard dash on the day with a 6.87. His uphill path produced some solid contact, but as it flattens out his speed will come into play more moving forward.
-2019 OF Jarett Kellerhals (Sunrise Mountain) showed off a solid LH swing, 7.08 60-yard dash and one of the best outfield arms on the day (84 mph outfield velocity).
additional standouts
-2019 Mason Skaugrud (Sandra Day O'Connor) has hitting ability from both sides of the plate and will help someone at the next level when his body matures. He shows an ability to drive the baseball to all fields and should develop more power as he gets stronger.
-2019 C Ethan Snodgrass (Sunrise Mountain) turned in a much better performance than only a couple weeks prior at the Fall Prospect Showcase. His 88 mph exit velocity, 7.44 60-yard dash, and 1.96 best pop time were all significant improvements as his body continues to get leaner and more athletic. Snodgrass' hitting ability was never in doubt.
-2018 OF Caden Albertson (Sunrise Mountain) started off the event by putting his elite speed on display with a 6.66 60-yard dash. That is his carrying tool and will give him a chance to play at the next level. Defensively, his feet work well in the outfield and he’s able to get solid carry on his throws with a clean arm action and 84 mph outfield velocity. Offensively, some continued development is needed as there isn’t a ton of strength in the swing; 79 mph exit velocity. However, with some physical maturation and a bat path that keeps the barrel in the zone longer, his peed will give him a chance to become an offensive contributor.
-2019 C Dylan Skov is a really solid all-around prospect turning in similar numbers to what he posted at the Fall Prospect Showcase. There's no question he can be a contributor on both sides of the ball at the next level.
