Winter Review & Jr. Future Games Trials Analysis: First Basemen

The Winter Review & Junior Future Games Trials Showcase took place December 30th at Pro Performance RX in Morgantown, WV. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance beginning with a look at the First Basemen that participated.

First Basemen 

Ethan StewartEthan Stewart, Meigs County (OH) Class of 2023

12.30.18 - Defensively, the 6-foot, 205-pound athlete displayed an advanced skill set. He moves his feet well around the bag with a solid feel for the position. A event best, 77 mph positional velocity was recorded. 

Offensively, Stewart swings the bat with conviction. A physical presence at the plate, but has the tenancy to dip his back shoulder. A 85 mph exit velocity was recorded. Overall, Stewart will be a high follow in the 2023 class.

Peyton Jackson Peyton Jackson, Spring Valley, Class of 2023

12.30.18 - Offensively, the 6-foot, 200-pound primary first baseman starts with a moderate leg kick, into an agressive hip turn and explosion. Recorded an event best 87 mph exit velocity.

Defensively, Jackson showed solid footwork and presence around the bag. A 73 mph positional velocity was recorded across the diamond. Jackson will be a player to follow in the 2023 class. 

Tyler JacksonTyler Jackson, Boyd County (KY), Class of 2022

12.30.18 - Offensively, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound primary first baseman starts in an athletic stance. Displayed solid hip explosion to go with a slight upper cut. Recorded a 86 mph exit velocity, good for second best at the event.

Defensively, Jackson displayed overall athleticism around the bag. A 70 mph positional velocity was recorded across the diamond. 

Brady WilliamsBrady Williams, St. Albans, Class of 2023

12.30.18 - Offensively, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete displayed a simple, controlled swing. Drops his back shoulder and looks to launch the ball. Showed a lot of confidence his swing and abilities. 

Defensively, Williams showed solid fundamentals and the ability to move his feet. A 69 mph positional velocity was recorded. Overall, Williams was one of the more impressive athletes at this event. He will be a player to follow in the 2023 class. 

Griffin MaddenGriffin Madden, Allegany (MD), Class of 2023

12.30.18 - Offensively, the 5-foot-10, 140-pound primary first basemen starts in a neutral setup. Displayed the ability to constantly find the barrel and drive the ball back through the box. A 72 mph exit velocity was recorded. 

Defensively, Madden moves very well around the bag. Displays confidence in his glove and footwork. A 67 mph positional velocity was recorded. 

Gregory EddyGregory Eddy, Morgantown, Class of 2023

12.30.18 - Offensively, the 5-foot-6, 180-pound primary pitcher starts in a neutral setup. Has the tendency to hit off his front foot, which prevents him from driving the ball. A 70 mph exit velocity was recorded. 

Defensively, Eddy displayed a solid glove which he shows a lot of confidence in.  Moves his feet efficiently and gets around the baseball. A 57 mph infield velocity was recorded.  

Ty OttTy Ott, Williamstown, Class of 2024

12.30.18 - Offensively, the 5-foot-4, 165-pound primary first baseman starts in a athletic, open stance. Utilizes a moderate leg kick and drives the ball well. A 63 mph exit velocity was recorded. 

Defensively, Ott stays in an athletic position while fielding and receives the ball out front. A 56 mph positional velocity was recorded. 

Jonah Willochell, Class of 2025

Jonah Willochell12.30.18 - Offensively, the 5-foot, 100-pound primary first basemen initiates his swing from a spread, open stance with his hands high near his head. Showed promising ability to hit pitches low in the zone. Has a longer swing, but it will no doubt get quicker as he continues to develop and add strength. A 50 mph bat exit velocity was recorded, along with a 9.41-60 yard dash.

Defensively, Willochell presented a confident glove hand and the ability to move his feet. While holding runners, he gets off the bag well with solid momentum towards his throwing target at second base.
