PBR Evaluation & Measurables Showcase Analysis: Class of 2019 Pitchers & Two-way Prospects

The PBR Evaluation & Measurables Showcase took place December 30th at Keystone State Baseball Academy. Today we conclude our analysis of the players in attendance by taking a look at pitchers and two-way players from the Class of 2019.

CLASS OF 2020
Top Prospect
Joseph Quelch, 3B/RHP, Bishop McNamara HS (MD)
Physical 6-foot, 195-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short, heel-raise stride. Displayed a strong lower half with a short swing path. Creates back spin routinely with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Showcased active feet defensively while playing through the baseball. 78 mph arm strength across the diamond showed good carry. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Right-hander sat 78-81 with good tilt from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 61-64 while his changeup sat 69-71 down in the zone.

Jaiden Cioffi, RHP/SS, St. John Neuman HS (PA)
6-foot-2, 180-pound primary pitcher sat 80-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some armside run to his fastball. Displayed a balanced, repeatable delivery with a loose, whippy arm action. Curveball sat 64-66 with 11/5 rotation including occasional down action. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and replace stride to initiate his swing. Swing is dominated by upper half. Displayed a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 7.60 60-yard dash and showcased developing defensive skills with 76 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Andrew Curran, RHP/OF, Souderton Area HS (PA)
6-foot-2, 235-pound primary pitcher sat 77-80 from a low 3/4 arm slot with a unique delivery while touching 86 mph on his final pitch of his bullpen. The delivery incorporates a pause in the stack position followed by a second hitch prior to delivery. Curran worked solely out of the stretch with the exception of his final fastball. Curveball sat 64-68 with slider break and changeup sat 70-74 from a sidearm slot. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel and an ability to create back spin with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Showcased athletic actions in the outfield with 86 mph arm strength while running a 7.60 60-yard dash.
Peyton Fox, RHP, Dallastown Area HS (PA)
6-foot-3, 155-pound right-hander sat 73-74 from a sidearm delivery with armside run and sink to his fastball working solely out of the stretch. Frame has plenty of room for added strength and velocity gains are likely. Curveball showed 9/3 rotation at 63-64 while changeup was thrown at near fastball arm action with similar movement at 66-67. Arm action is loose and delivery is repeatable. Showcased solid command of all pitches working to both sides of the plate, down in the zone.
Ryan Jantzen, 2B/RHP, Ephrata HS (PA)
5-foot-9 , 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a knee-to-knee stride. Displayed balance throughout with a short swing path and and a feel for the barrel. Registered a 77 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.91 60-yard dash. Displayed an ability to play through the baseball defensively with a short, quick release and accurate 70 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-hander sat 74-77 on the mound working out of a high 3/4 arm slot with a high-knee stack and some hip coil to his delivery. Fastball showed two-seam run curveball had 12/6 rotation with down action at 62-63. Also displayed command of a cutter at 67-68 and a changeup at 73-75.
Shayne Ostrowsky, LHP, Pennsbury HS (PA)
6-foot, 215-pound lefty sat 74-76 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Begins delivery with a front rocker step and gets downhill well. Curveball showed tight, short 1/7 break at 68-71 above average command down in the zone. Changeup is thrown out of the same window at fastball arm speed at 70-73. Command of three pitches with repeatable mechanics with a projectable frame makes Ostrowsky a pitcher to follow in this class.
