Eastern PA Top Prospect Games Analysis: Position Players (Class of 2018)

The Eastern PA Top Prospect Games brought 65 prospects to La Salle University for two days of game play and showcase activities on July 19 and 20. Over the course of the next week we will analyze each of the players that participated. Today we continue the process by reviewing position players in the Class of 2018. Players that participated as two-way prospects will be reviewed in a later article.

CATCHERS (CLASS OF 2018)

Shane Beyer, C, Notre Dame-Green Pond HS
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed limited lower half action with a line drive approach and a feel for the barrel. Went 1-for-4 in game action on day one and showcased a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Showed sound receiving and blocking skills and a short throwing motion with a quick release. Registered top pop time of 2.12 in defensive evaluations with very accurate 75 mph arm strength.

Mark Seibert, C, Holy Ghost Prep
6-foot, 175-pounder has shown steady development over past two years while adding significant strength to his frame. Right-handed hitter initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Registered an 86 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-3 in game action on day two. Flashed a top pop time of 2.21 during defensive evaluations with accurate 74 mph arm strength from the crouch.

Joshua Tesarck, C, Pennsbury HS
Physical 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a strong lower half and present gap-to-gap power with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph while going 1-for-3 with a double on day one. Flashed top pop time of 2.12 with solid straight line carry on throws of 74 mph from the crouch. Also exhibited ability to make solid throw to 2B from his knees during the workout.

Luke Weigel, C, Lampeter-Strasburg HS
6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitter utilizes a controlled leg-lift stride to initiate a balanced swing with solid feel for the barrel. Registered an 88 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-3 in game action on day one. Displayed capable defensive actions with a top pop time of 2.20 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. Physical rising junior also showed solid feet and a soft glove hand at first base.

INFIELDERS (CLASS OF 2018)

Jarod Bingaman, MIF, Upper Dauphin HS
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide square stance with a high-hands load and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. Displayed a line-drive approach with a feel for the barrel during batting practice. Showcased solid feel for the baseball in game action going 3-for-5 with a triple and a walk over two games with a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Flashed fluid actions defensively with solid feet and the ability to make the slow-roller play look easy. Showed accurate 81 mph arm strength with the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles.

Joseph Gorla, MIF, Perkiomen Valley HS
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, crouched stance and initiates his swing from a low-hands launch point. Displayed a feel for the barrel and sprayed line drives to both gaps during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Rising junior did not participate on day two due to summer team advancing in playoffs, but has a 7.34 60-yard dash and displayed advanced arm strength across the diamond (85 mph).

Dale Houser, MIF, Donegal HS
5-foot-10, 160-pounder plays bigger than his size. Right-handed hitter utilizes a pronounced leg-lift stride to initiate his swing and registered a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases on day one showcasing his foot speed (6.79 60-yard dash). Solid glove hand with accurate 83 mph arm strength should allow Houser to plays multiple infield positions at the next level. Potential move to the outfield to take advantage of his foot speed is also a possibility.

Spencer Miller, MIF, Clarion Area HS
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, slightly open stance and uses a short heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Deep load leads to some arm-bar in his swing with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Went 2-for-6 in game action legging out two infield hits. Defensive skill set is best suited for second base at the next level. 71 mph arm strength could be improved with additional work on playing through the baseball.

Michael Reilly, MIF, Germantown Academy
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. A barrel wrap in his load leads to some length in his swing with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Flashed a soft glove hand with a quick release and the ability to make throws from several arm angles defensively.
 

OUTFIELDERS (CLASS OF 2018)

Ryan Bealer, OF, North Penn HS
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open, shoulder width stance and utilizes a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Registered an 81 mph bat exit velocity and 3-for-6 in game action with a double while flashing solid foot speed (4.32 home-to-1B). Flashed athletic actions defensively with accurate 74 mph arm strength from the outfield.

David Bolles, OF, Malvern Prep
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Showcased 79 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-3 with a double in game action on day one. Solid runner (4.38 home-to-1B) displayed capable defensive actions with 79 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Quinn Buffington, OF, Camp Hill
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a an open, wide stance and and creates barrel whip with a strong hip turn. Flashed an 84 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-3 with a double in game action on day one. Solid runner (6.89 60-yard dash) displayed athletic defensive actions in the outfield with accurate 82 mph arm strength to home plate.
