Eastern PA Top Prospect Games Analysis: Position Players (Class of 2019)

The Eastern PA Top Prospect Games brought 65 prospects to La Salle University for two days of game play and showcase activities on July 19 and 20. Over the course of the next week we will analyze each of the players that participated. Today we continue the process by reviewing position players in the Class of 2019. Players that participated as two-way prospects will be reviewed in a later article.

CATCHERS (CLASS OF 2019)

C/1B Dalton Daddona (Bethlehem Catholic HS)
6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe tap stride to initiate his swing. Deep load leads to some length is swing with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Showcased 70 mph arm strength with pop times of 2.39-2.51 during defensive evaluations. Times will improve as he becomes more directional to 2B and eliminates lower half drifting to 3B.

C Kollin Henneman (Big Spring HS)
5-foot-9, 190-pound right-handed hitter displayed an explosive lower half during one of the better rounds of BP at the event. Showcased 89 mph bat exit velocity and went 2-for-6 with a double in game action. Flashed solid blocking skills with 74 mph arm strength and a top pop time of 2.28 defensively. Plays the  game harder than most and exhibits a drive to succeed.

InfielderS (CLASS OF 2019)

Kyle Rhoads, MIF, Cocalico HS
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter has grown an inch and put on 30 pounds of muscle over the past year. Flashed improved arm strength (84 mph) and the ability to make all plays on the left side of the infield. Displayed the ability to barrel the baseball routinely from a square stance with a short lift-and-replace stride. Simple, repeatable swing path showed improved barrel whip (84 mph bat exit). Handled elevated velocity in game play over two days while registering a 4.67 home-to-1B time.

Bren Taylor, MIF, Eastern York HS
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and often strides to a closed position limiting his ability to fully incorporate his lower half. Showcased an 85 mph bat exit velocity and a feel for the barrel in game action. Displays active feet and the ability to play through the baseball defensively with 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. Will need to work on tendency to play balls in the web of his glove.

outFIELDERS (CLASS OF 2019)

Evan Johnson, OF, The Shipley School
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride from a high-elbow load. Showcased 79 mph bat exit velocity and went 2-for-5 with a walk in game action. Solid runner (4.50 home-to-1B) displayed accurate 75 mph arm strength from the outfield while playing through the baseball routinely. Overall game will continue to improve through maturity and strength gains.
