ProCase Preview - Toronto Mets

As the ProCase is right around the corner, the roster is set and the talent is impressive for this year’s event. Dan Lang Field will host players from the Toronto Mets, Ontario Blue Jays, Fieldhouse Pirates, Ontario Terriers, Great Lake Canadians, Stoufville Yankees, Ontario Royals and ABC Académie. These ballplayers have a chance to start the spring off with success and raise their stock heading into the summer. Here is a breakdown of the Toronto Mets attendees.

Ryan Leitch C / 1B / Sinclair , ON / 2019Rankings StateRank: 4 / POS: 2
Report: Leitch, a Marshall commit, and a new member of the Junior National team, he has immediately made an impact on the past two trips. Powerful, 6-foot-2, 210-pound catcher with a large, built frame. Behind the plate, he has been in the 1.91-2.00 range on pops with 77 mph arm strength. Sets up wide with his knees slightly bent in the box, hands held high, before loading them back and using a big leg kick. He gets off of his backside effectively with momentum. Bat speed, strength and an upward bat path lead to raw power all over the field. He looks to drive the ball in the air and do damage with an exit velocity of 98 mph. Impact power potential with the ability to catch, Leitch’s presence will be known at the ProCase.

Keegan Pulford-Thorpe LHP / OF / Newmarket , ON / 2019Report: UCF commit and top arm in the 2019 class, and one of five Mets Canadian Junior National Team members. Pulford-Thorpe features a 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame; there’s some athleticism and improved strength to his build. The left-hander throws from a ¾ slot, clean arm circle out back, finishes on the third-base side. He will throw his fastball in the mid-high 80’s, and has been up to 91 early on this year. Shows ability to spin his 1/7 shape curveball with tight rotation and can be potential out pitch and there is some feel with the changeup. Biggest thing with Thorpe is the ability to repeat and command his fastball. There have been struggles throwing strikes but the stuff is there and when he can control his offerings, tough to find a better lefty in the country.

Noah Hull 1B / OF / Sir Oliver Mowat, ON / 2019Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 1
Report: Iowa-western commit, Canadian Junior National Team member, 9th ranked 2019 player. Big 6-foot-3, 215-pound build, broad-shouldered, fairly loose, currently strong with room to get stronger. Has been up to 7.11 running the 60-yard dash, continued improvements, can play in an outfield corner, arm works up to 85 mph comfortably. Relaxed setup in box, head sits over front shoulder, uses leg kick to load, stays balanced. Adjustable path, stays short to pitches up, able to extend and create lift on pitches down, generates bat speed with minimal effort, works gap-to-gap, pull-side pop. Potential middle of the order bat at the next level who will produce most value through his ability to slug offensively.

Mitch Bratt LHP / OF / Newmarket, ON / 2021Report: One of the best arms in the country in the 2021 class, Bratt has been stellar for the National Team, pitching to a 0.00 ERA in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts against pro competition. 6-foot, 185-pound medium frame with proportioned strength throughout. He comes right after hitters from a high ¾ arm slot and creates extension out front when following through. He stays balanced over the rubber, and compact mechanically, allowing him to control his pitches in the strike zone. He has touched the upper 80’s with his fastball which plays harder while mixing in a changeup with fading action, as well as a hard downward curveball with plenty of depth, it could potentially be his best pitch down the road. He has handled facing pro competition with ease and will look to standout at the ProCase. |

Drew Howard RHP / SS / All Saints , ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 6 / POS: 2
Report: Undersized 5-foot-11, 150-pound slim build, Howard is wiry strong and athletic. The right-hander loads back on the mound, tilting away from the plate, and staying compact, coming forward with lots of drive. He throws from a high ¾ slot, fairly short arm action, often lands straight. Generates velocity with intent and arm quickness, he sits in the mid-high 80’s, topping out at 89 mph. He pitches with an aggressive mindset and pounds the zone. His best secondary offering is his curveball, the pitch has late downward break, potentially being a strikeout pitch for Howard. In short stints as of recently, Howard has maintained his velocity and has been under control with his location. Exciting arm with a bright future for the 2020 prospect.

Noel McGarry Doyle OF / 1B / St. Elizabeth CHS, ON / 2019Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 3
Report: Canadian Junior National Team member, Jefferson JC recruit, eighth-ranked player, second-ranked outfielder in 2019 class. Thick 6-foot-2, 210-pound build, large, strong frame, physically developed. McGarry-Doyle is a 6.79 runner; he moves well with regular effort. In the outfield, he displays clean mechanics with a smooth transfer, getting off throws up to 85 mph. In the box, he sets up wide, get’s into slot while keeping his hands back, slightly straight arm, comes forward with momentum, mostly flat path, high finish. Ball comes off his bat up to 99 mph, best when he can extend his arms, when he gets out front he creates lift, will need to be more consistent doing so. Raw athletic outfielder with tools and strength to develop into a solid player at the next level with a high ceiling. |

Turner Spoljaric RHP / NA, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 6 / POS: 2
Report: 6-foot, 178-pound athletic build, with a medium frame and physical projectability. The right-hander has polished delivery for his age, clean mechanically, with repeatable ¾ slot and arm action. He sits in the 84-86 range, having topped out at 88 mph recently. Works arm-side often, will make in-game adjustments to work to the other side of the plate. Fastball has natural running action, his tight curveball is his best secondary offering with 10/4 shape, the pitch records swings and misses from righty bats. He has made huge strides over the past year and looks to impress at the ProCase. |

Kieran Gagnon OF / RHP / Westside , ON / 2019Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 7
Report: Gagnon, arguably one of the fastest players in the province, is a plus runner and solid defender who continues to get better reads in CF and polish his position. Noticeable strength gains, muscular frame and top end athlete. There is bat speed at the plate and is a threat anytime balls are on the ground to beat out infield hits and takes that same threat to stealing bags. Some work to do at the plate but the tools play up in game and easy to see how Gagnon can be a game changer on both sides of the ball with his speed and athleticism. |

Carter Seabrooke LHP / OF / Crestwood , ON / 2019Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 2
Report: Carter, brother of Baltimore Orioles prospect, Travis, he looks to make his ProCase debut. He features a 6-foot, 180-pound build, strong lower half, medium frame with room to add strength. Effortful delivery, overhand release point, falls over to the first-base side, creating deception with moving parts. Sits in the mid 80’s with his fastball, will touch 88 mph. Curveball shows potential with 1/7 break, can be an effective pitch; he will throw his changeup to give hitters another look, will be a good watch when he takes the hill this week.
