analyzing the 2023 arms
On Monday we released our updated 2023 rankings after a long summer following the class. The past year offered us the chance to see several of these arms down South at the Future Games and plenty more right here in Ontario.
After breaking down the top ten players earlier this week, we're going to focus on five of the top arms outside of that range. This list includes a pair of Division I commits, Niagara and Missouri, as well as three intriguing uncommitted right-handers.
Matthew Marsh LHP / OF / Adam Scott, ON / 2023Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 1
Niagara Commit
|
Ryan (RJ) James RHP / SS / John A MacDonald, ON / 2023Rankings StateRank: 12 / POS: 5
Ryan James was with our Future Games team this summer and is an uncommitted prospect we expect to make a big leap in 2021. It's a lean frame at 6-foot, 180-pound with a fastball that sat in the low, to mid 80s this past year. He's always worked with a good breaking ball that keeps hitters off balance and he's been developing a changeup as well. One of the more intriguing uncommitted arms in the province.

Jacob Malinauskas LHP / Garth Webb, ON / 2023Rankings StateRank: 21 / POS: 2
Missouri Commit
|
Jack Cohen RHP / Ecole secondaire catholique Renaissance, ON / 2023Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 6
The Toronto Mets right-hander has been an intriguing arm in this class for a few years now. Cohen, 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, has a quick arm that we've seen up to 85 mph and he works downhill. The athletic frame coupled with the arm make him an intriguing one to follow in this class going forward.
|
Carson Tehan RHP / OF / Sandwich Secondary School, ON / 2023Rankings StateRank: 30 / POS: 8
We saw Tehan back in September and he did a good job of throwing strikes and mixing in his curveball that had proper rotation and shape at 70-72 mph. The fastball worked in the low 80’s and with his clean arm action and delivery, it's not hard to imagine his stuff taking a tick up here in the fall and really climbing early on in 2022.
