The Class 1 State Championship is set and Class 2 is ready to talk center stage at T.R. Hughes in St. Charles today. Here is a look at the week's events at the Missouri State Championship.
Tuesday, June 2
Class 3 Consolation; Lutheran St. Charles 7 vs. #6 Warsaw 2
Winston Jefferson hit a two-run home run in the third inning to give Lutheran St. Charles a 3-0 lead, and they wouldn't look back, defeating Warsaw 7-2 in the Class 3 consolation game. Matthew Seacrist allowed three hits in seven innings to earn the win for the Cougars.
Class 3 State Championship; #2 Fatima 3, Scott City 2 (8 inn.)
Will Robertson homered in the top of the eighth inning to give Fatima a 3-2 win in the Class 3 state championship game. Robertson finished with two hits and two RBI. Teammates Matthew Temman and Hunter Hennier also added two hits, while Logan Vogel fanned five hitter over eight innings to earn the win. Vogel allowed two runs on nine hits. Andrew Short, Dylan Keller, and Isiah Berry each collected two hits for Scott City. This is Fatima's second state championship in three years, winning in eight innings 2-0 over Springfield Catholic in 2013.

1:30 - Class 1 State Championship: #2 Bell City vs. Atlanta

4:30 - #1 Valle Catholic (28-5) vs. West Platte (19-5)
Valle Catholic looks to repeat as Class 2 State Champions as the square off against West Platte in the state semifinal game today. The Warriors are loaded with seniors with experience, and they have a good mix of talented underclassmen that will make them a tough team to beat. Andrew Basler had defeated Bernie and Crystal City in last two starts, both by one run. He has he tossed a complete game in both occasions, allowing only seven hits with 17 strikeouts in those starts. Daniel Bergtoldt is 2-0 in this last two starts, working 12 innings with 19 strikeouts. Valle Catholic will also feature Connor Basler in the middle of their line up. Basler is a projectable athletic 6-foot 165-pound shortstop. McKaulley Stephenson is 9-1 on the mound for West Platte this year, recording 102 strikeouts in 59 innings. He has a .475 ERA, allowing just four earned runs this season. He is also batting .443 with four home runs and 36 RBI. Peyton Morris is also a power threat in the Blue Jay line up, hitting .493 with three home runs 22 RBI.
7:00 - New Bloomfield (16-9) vs. Norwood 19-8)
Joel Ogletree is hitting at a .507 clip this spring for Norwood, driving in 42 runs with eight home runs, and Dalton Rein will lead the Pirates on the mound. Rein is sporting a 9-2 record with a 2.36 ERA, striking out 41 batters in 74 innings this spring. He has allowed only 15 walks. New Bloomfield is led by three First-Team All-District players Sam Niedergerke, Tucker Lane, and Clay Jensen.
