With Kickapoo beating Rock Bridge in extra innings, 4-3 on a sacrifice fly by Nate Troop in the eighth inning Friday, and Staley downing Lee's Summit West, 3-0 Sunday, on a compete-game shut-out by Hunter Swift the field for the Final Four in all classes are set.
In the days to follow we will break down the match-ups in the state championship, starting today with Class 3 Final Four.
Monday, June 1
Class 3
4:30 - #6 Warsaw (19-12) vs. Scott City (20-12)
Warsaw is led by one of the top players in the state, Missouri State commit, Jeremy Eierman. Eierman is a hitting a .542 clip this spring with eight home runs. On the mound, Joey Cooner, a Crowder CC commit, has struck out 93 batters in 60 innings, posting a 7-1 record. Bailey Jelinek is 7-0 on the mound hitting .404 on season. Warsaw is a hot team, entering the game winners of their last 15 games. Their last lost was to Southern Boone on April 10. Scott City enters the week just as hot, winners of their last eleven, with their last lost at the hand of Class 4 #1 Cape Notre Dame. Trent Pobst and sophomore, Braden Cox are players to watch for Scott City. Pobst is a strong, middle of the line-up hitter, that also doubles as a football player.
7:00 - #2 Fatima (20-7) vs. Lutheran St. Charles (16-12)
Fatima is riding high behind pitchers Logan Vogel and Alex Dickneite. Dickneite no-hit Eugene in the district semifinal and earned a 6-2 complete-game win over Mountain Grove. He struck out seven and allowed two hits in the win. Vogal has combined for 14 strikeouts, two walks, eight hits and no earned runs in wins over Dixon and Stockton. Will Roberston is a powerful lefty hitter in the middle of the Comets line up, coming off a 4-for-2 performance against Stockton. Bryce Jefferson leads Lutheran St. Charles with a .703 slugging percentage, three home runs and a .459 batting average. Kory Carter has hit very well this spring as well, adding two home runs and 32 RBI and a .427 batting average. Lutheran St. Charles has played a tough schedule that has included many Class 5 teams.
