The PBR overall 2016 rankings came out at the end of July. The PBR area of coverage has continued to expand with the additions of New Jersey and all of the New England states putting the PBR network at 27 states.

With more states entering the fold, Maryland had another solid showing with eight players making the Overall Top 400.
OF Ryan Brown (St. James HS) was the only new player to make the cut in the overall rankings entering in at No. 355. The Charleston-Southern commit had a nice summer playing with the Mid-Atlantic Redsox and his performances at the Western Maryland Prospect ID and the Top Prospect Games at the University of Maryland.
Seven of the eight players in the Top 400 stayed in the rankings even with all the new states in the PBR network. 1B/RHP Matt Mervis (Georgetown Prep), the top player in the Maryland 2016 rankings, made it at the No. 83 position in the overall rankings.
Defending 4A state champs Gaithersburg saw two of their players make the Top 400 with LHP Anthony Felitti (featured in our Commitment Analysis yesterday) at No. 116 and RHP/INF Nick Pantos at No. 189.
Maryland commit RHP Elliot Zoellner came in at No. 153. The projectable righty for St. Mary’s has plenty more in the tank and could be a candidate to make a climb in the ranks.
LHP Tyler Blohm of MIAA champ Archbishop Spalding made the overall rankings at No. 218. The ace for the Cavaliers has great size and is another projectable arm committed to Maryland.
SS Michael Richardson (Cambridge South Dorchester, video below) came on to the scene after a breakout performance at the Maryland Preseason ID and had another strong showing at the Top Prospect Games. Richardson has an athletic frame with room to fill out and recently committed to Campbell University.
Mervis’ teammate Brian Dempsey (No. 356), a Boston college commit, is a slick fielding middle infielder for Georgetown Prep. Dempsey should be in the conversation as one of the top defensive players in the Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. He shows great first step quickness and instincts from the infield for the IAC champs.
Some notable prospect that just missed the overall rankings this time and could potentially make the next installment include RHP Brandon Martin (Williamsport) committed to Fordham, SS Dalton Stewart (Boonsboro) committed to UMBC, SS Jordan Hutchins (Dover, DE) committed to Delaware, LHP Jaret Bennett (Colonel Richardson) committed to Charleston-Southern, and OF Davonn Griffin (Hammond) committed to James Madison.
