Last week the PBR Maryand state rankings were released. This last update resulted in our largest rankings list to date, now featuring the top 125 players in the PBR Maryland area of coverage. It is a direct result of our commitment to being the No. 1 source for high school baseball. Today we are going to take a look at some of the biggest risers in the 2016 class.
Although only moving up four spots, Brandon Martin (pictured) made a significant jump in the Top Ten moving from No. 9 to No. 4. Martin has been known as one of the stronger arms in the state, and has showed growth on the mound with increased command and polish through the course of 2015. The Fordham commit also made his way back into the 2016 Overall rankings with his recent performance.
Towson commit Matt Smith (Parkside) moved up nine spots from No. 37 to No. 28. One of the top power threats in the state, Smith was a feared hitter in the Parkside lineup in 2015 and will be a senior leader for a younger Rams roster in the upcoming 2016 season. Mount St. Mary???s commit Damond Nixon (Archbishop Curley) moved up 14 slots into the top 50 after his commitment and an impressive showing at the Fall Review East in October. Nixon has shown plenty of development this summer and is another power threat that saw his stock rise. He will be looked upon in the Curley lineup this season to replace Marty Costes.
Jake Wyandt (pictured) of Mount St. Joseph moved up almost 20 spots just outside of the top 50. The athletic C/INF impressed at the unsigned senior games in August. He recorded a best pop time of 1.97 and his quick swing recorded an exit velocity of 86 mph. Recent Salisbury commit Tyler Hickey of CM Wright was another player to move up the rankings into the Top 60. Hickey has an imposing frame (6-foot-6, 180-pounds) and projects well on the mound. He will be a player to watch this upcoming 2016 season for CM Wright.
Stay tuned to PBR Maryland next week as we will breakdown players from the 2016 class that made the PBR Overall Rankings and we begin to dissect the updated Maryland 2017 rankings. Also coming soon is our analysis from the Fall Review, Fall Underclass Invitational, and we will release the class of 2018 rankings.
