Now that the 2016 rankings have been revised and updated we now move to the class of 2017 rankings. The Top ten has received a bit of a shake up since our last update at the end of the summer with two new players in the Top 10.

It is important to note that the state rankings are based on the location of the high school a player attends and not their home state. For example, Player A lives in Maryland but attends a school that is located in Washington DC.  Because the school is located in DC, that players eligibility for rankings would fall in the Virginia/DC state rankings. Having said that, the biggest departure from the Maryland rankings was 3B Brandon Dorsey, formerly of Calvert Hall. Dorsey was the No. 4 ranked player in the last update and has since transferred to IMG Academy in Florida. Therefore Dorsey has left the Maryland rankings and has moved to the Florida rankings.

PBR Maryland hosted multiple events over the fall season, culminating with the Fall Underclass invitational on November 1. 40 of the top uncommitted players in the area were in attendance and the two new faces that made their way into the rankings were in attendance. Uncommitted RHP/OF Ryan Bywaters had two impressive showings at the Fall Review and the Fall Underclass invitational, turning some heads with his fastball up to 88 mph to go along with his projectable 6-foot-4, 170-pound frame. He now takes hold of the No. 6 spot. Stout uncommitted C Colin Adams (pictured) of Caravel Academy put on a strong display at the Fall Invite, barreling up the ball during an impressive BP showing gap-to-gap hitting ability and power potential. Behind the dish Adams got up to 82 mph in velocity which contributed to his pop time of 1.94 and solidified his position at No. 8.

The new rankings have expanded from 75 to 90 with this latest installment.  Still holding the No. 1 spot is SS Jeremy Arocho of Old Mill HS.  Arocho had a solid fall and played well in Jupiter, once again showing off his high skill level on the defensive side. Randy Bednar and Grant Burleson round out the Top 3 once again.

Three of the bigger risers in the rankings include two recent commits Jack Schroeder (VCU) and Gunner Barnard (Maryland). The third big riser is Scott Prutting of Landon after an impressive showing at the Fall Invite increasing all of his statistics and turning himself into a nice ball player. All three find themselves in the Top 30.

This week we will wrap up our 2016 rankings breakdown with the biggest risers in the 2016 class and next week we will begin to look more closely at the top newcomers to the 2017 rankings along with the biggest risers.  Also, the PBR Overall 2017 rankings will be coming up around the corner highlighting the top players in the PBR area of coverage. Stay tuned to see who all from the Maryland area of coverage makes their mark.
