Wisconsin Underclass Trials: Infielder Analysis
September 3, 2020
On June 24, the PBR Wisconsin team started its hefty summer showcase circuit with its annual Underclass Trials event, a showcase targeted for prospects representing graduating classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024. We produced our rapid post-event analysis in the days that followed, inside our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis posts, and we’re wrapping up our event analysis this week having written scouting reports on each of the event’s prospects.
We began our position-by-position analysis with the event’s catchers and outfielders, and we’re onto this big list of infielders today.
This group is led by a trio of high-follow 2022 talent, with Campbellsport’s Jalen Gellings sitting at the top. He’s an athletic, strong right/right prospect who swings a fast, strong bat that connected for some of the hardest and farthest contact of the day. He’s also pretty smooth on the left side of the infield and projects best at third.
A pair of shortstops earned rankings next: Camdin Jansen (Racine Lutheran, 2022) and Anthony Lausten (Hartford, 2022). Both are glove-first types with big arms, complete with sound actions to stick to short for the long-term.
Lastly, we wanted to mention a high-follow 2025 prospect here, as we opted to keep the list below composed of 2022 and 2023 players. SS/RHP Jack Poellet (Living Word Lutheran, 2025) spent the summer as a 2024 prospect, during which he stood out on several occasions, even once while playing up at the 16U level. We haven’t seen many follow ‘25s, but Poellet is certainly one we’ll be watching closely.
Check out their scouting reports in full below, as well as the rest of the infielders who took reps at this event back in June.
