Missouri Underclass Games: Middle Infield Analysis

On June 13, Prep Baseball Report Missouri held the Missouri Underclass Games. Over 80 players in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 classes attended.
In the days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today we will take a look at the Middle Infielders. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Tyler Bastunas SS / Timberland, MO / 2019Bastunas is a 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.57 60 and a 4.78 home to first. He has an 89 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg kick, aggressive swing speed, leverage in lower half, showed pull side power during batting practice. Tyler Blum SS / Valle Catholic, MO / 2019Blum is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.75 laser timed 60 and a 5.09 home to first. He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, level path through the zone, body stays controlled during swing, middle to pull side contact. On the infield, 67 mph positional velo, quick transfer, fluid footwork with clean exchange, long levers, mostly accurate throws. Singled to left field in game action. |
Nathan Chester 2B / Liberty North, MO / 2020Chester is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.59 laser timed 60 and a 4.70 home to first.
