On June 10, the PBR Illinois team hosted one of its first showcases of the summer, the Underclass Trials. This event helped us learn of some high-follow talent to know ahead of the summer inside the state’s 2022, 2023, and 2024 classes. We began our showcase analysis on Monday when we published the scouting reports on the day’s catchers, and went on to the day's outfielders and infielders since. Today, we’re assessing this group of pitchers, another talented list of names that goes beyond the ranked names below.

Standing atop this crop is RHP Ashton Izzi (Oswego East, 2022), who used this performance to propel himself well onto our radar as a potential Team Illinois selection to the PBR Future Games, which ultimately came to fruition. His live fastball was the day’s best and he remains a follow uncommitted arm in the state’s ‘22 class.

We broke the list below down into a right-handed ranked list and a left-handed one, and the 6-foot-4 southpaw Michael Morawski (Andrew, 2022) is a name to keep a close eye on. Still harnessing his frame and levers, Morawski produces a low-80s fastball that jumps some, with the feel to spin a breaking ball.

TOP RHP PROSPECTS

1. Ashton Izzi, Oswego East (IL), 2022
Positional Profile: RHP. This performance helped Izzi earn a place on Team Illinois' PBR Future Games roster.
Body: 6-2, 155-pounds. Long, lean levers; high projection.
Delivery: Stretch-only; high knee at balance point, drops and drives athletically to target with closed shoulders; athletic, controlled finish, squared to home.
Arm Action: Compact arm circle; quick arm speed from a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T88, 86-87 mph. Pitch jumps out of the hand with hard arm-side action at times.
SL: 72-76 mph. Raw feel for spin; some downer action.
CH: 72-76 mph. Aggressive pitch; mostly maintains arm speed. Some late run/fade action.

2. David Andolina, Oak Park-River Forest (IL), 2022
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-0, 177-pounds. Lean athlete.
Delivery: Tall start from middle of the rubber; quick tempo to athletic high knee, drops and drives with high front side. Lands square to target, finishes athletically.
Arm Action: Long arm circle from an over-the-top slot
FB: T85, 82-85 mph. Some steepness to home with arm-side action.
CB: 65-68 mph. Above-average feel for spin; 12/6 shape with some depth, feel for strikes.
CH: 72-75 mph. Straight change; occasional sink. Mostly maintains arm speed.

3. Easton Harris, Washington Community (IL), 2022
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-11, 160-pounds. Lean, wiry frame that projects.
Delivery: Tall start from the middle of the rubber; slow tempo, athletic to balance point, leg drops and drives; good separation at landing. Falls off to first base side at finish.
Arm Action: Quick, compact arm action from high 3/4 slot.
FB: T83, 80-82 mph. Straight with carry through the zone.
CB: 64-67 mph. Flashed sharp action; 11/5 shape.
CH: 70-73 mph. Aggressive with arm-side run/fade.
CUT: 73-74 mph. Slider-like with short wrinkle. Feel for strikes; some downer bite.

4. Grant Tenuta, Sandburg (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-0, 180-pounds. Proportional strength in athletic frame.
Delivery: Squared start from the center of the rubber; fluid side step to athletic high knee balance point. Lead leg drops down and out to slightly open landing. Athletic finish, in control, some effort involved.
Arm Action: Arm circle is compact, short, from a high 3/4 slot with present arm speed.
FB: T82, 80-81 mph. Mostly straight with some arm-side action.
CB: 66-69 mph. Short wrinkle off 11/5 plane.
CH: 68-71 mph. Slight deceleration with some fade/run.

T-5. Wesley Carter, Central Catholic (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-0, 155-pounds.
Delivery: Tempo'd tall/fall delivery, level front side, stable lead leg at foot strike, short stride downhill, works direct to target. Maintains a fluid rhythm throughout, consistently repeats.
Arm Action: Short and loose arm works quick from a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T77, 75-77 mph. Comes out clean. Four-seam type, strikes.
SL: 57-59 mph. 11/5 shape. Sharp action to it at times.
CH: 68-69 mph. Fastball arm speed. Heavy arm-side run, feel for pitch. 

T-5. Drew Zemaitis, Providence Catholic (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 6-2, 185-pounds. Proportional strength in frame.
Delivery: Sides steps to fluid level knee at balance point; smooth tempo. Works in rhythm, quiet head, level shoulders. Lands square, in control, athletic finish.
Arm Action: Long, loose, quick arm action from a high 3/4 slot. Clean with low effort.
FB: T77, 75-76 mph. Consistent arm-side run and some sink.
CB: 64-65 mph. Some feel to spin; flashed sharp 10/4 action.

Delivery: Athletic drop/drive type delivery, heavy back leg load, aggressive disengage from rubber, creates extension downhill. Closed front side, works direct to target, falls towards first base side.
Arm Action: LH. Long and loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
