Top infield prospects were led by Francois Castillo (Roberto Clemente) who continues to show off a serious set of tools, highlighted by a plus arm across the diamond. 2019 prospect Jalen Greer is of note, not mentioned in the top overalls, Greer looks to be one of the better 2019 prospects. Mason Sykes (Conant) is a physical corner infielder with a big power bat potential.
Here’s a look at the rest of the top infield prospects.
Top Infield Prospects
1. Francois Castillo, OF/INF, Roberto Clemente, 2018
6-foot, 210-pound, solid lower half, strong multi-positional prospect. Defensively, worked out in the infield and outfield, continues to impress with his arm strength and athletic actions. Throws are accurate, have life, carry and clocked at 91 mph from both positions. Fields the ball out front, soft, receptive hands, smooth transfer with length. Offensively, right-handed hitter, flashed bat speed and pull power; advanced, gap-to-gap approach and fluid rhythm throughout. Exit velocity clocked at 81 mph. Also, ran a 7.21 laser-timed 60.
2. Mason Sykes, 3B/1B, Conant, 2018
6-foot-3, 220-pound corner infielder, extra-large, plus frame, physically impressive for his age. Right-handed power type bat, tall setup, athletic and balanced through contact. Advanced bat strength, easy power, explosive bat for his age. Path is level through the zone, showed gap to gap contact in BP with pop. 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed arm strength, short and over the top, flashed carry, 81 mph. Moves well enough to stick at third base, hands are playable, showed some actions. 7.45 runner in the 60.
3. Ryan Howe, SS, Prospect, 2018
6-foot-1, 180-pound infielder, lean athletic body type. Advanced runner, 6.83 in the 60, laser timed. Defensively showed good actions and confident hands, hands are soft and plays well on the move. Arm action is loose, high ¾ slot, flashed carry across the diamond, 81 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short lifted stride which closes off some. Path repeats, short to the baseball, can get more out of lower half. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee.
4. Jaylen Heard, 1B, Marian Catholic, 2018
Strong stocky build, advanced strength for age, 6-foot-1, 225-pound first-baseman. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride back to even, balance is strong through contact. Simple approach in the box with east pop. Bat speed present, power type bat, 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.87 runner in the 60. Defensively showed average actions around the bag, hands work. Arm action is short and over the top, 68 mph across the diamond.
5. Ryan Patel, SS/RHP, Mundelein, 2018
Long projectable frame, slender build, 6-foot-1, 150-pounds. Defensively showed rangy advanced actions, plays through the baseball with soft hands, cushions to release, good body control. Arm action is short and loose, over the top slot, carried across the diamond at 83 mph, athletic arm action that can play on the move. Right-handed hitter, open stance, smooth load and good balance. Long levers, path worked, short to the baseball at times, good approach, line drive type hitter, lacked overall strength. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. On the mound arm action is short and quick, stays on line. Fastball topped at 81 mph, sat 79-80 mph with slight arm side run. Curveball has 11/5 shape, late tight action, 63-65 mph. Changeup is straight, thrown with fastball arm speed. 70-72 mph.
6. Andrew Tenison, 3B/1B, Sandburg, 2018
Large frame, 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-handed hitting corner infielder. Tall open stance, stride gets back to square, solid balance. Strong hitter, attacks the baseball, showed an ability to make hard contact. Bat speed is present, path gets some extension. Pull side power approach, 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 78 mph across the diamond, short over the top slot. Corner infield defender, hands worked, exchange gets some length. 8.45 runner in the 60.
7. Anthony DeConcilis, INF/OF, Lake Park, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound, right-handed hitting multi-positional prospect. Ran a 7.16 laser-timed 60. Worked out on the infield and in the outfield. Defensively, more natural on the infield; easy body control, steady hands, flashes athletic actions and a clean, quick release. Ability to throw from multiple angles and make plays on the move; clocked at 83 mph across the infield and 84 mph from the outfield. Offensively, simple swing, minimal pre-pitch movement, balanced setup, smooth load and leg-kick timing trigger. Registered an exit velocity of 82 mph.
8. Brendan Collins, MIF, St. Laurence, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound middle infielder, athletic shape. Defensively showed advanced actions, athletic and plays through the baseball, excellent body control. Arm action is short, high ¾ slot, athletic and plays from multiple slots, 75 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Path works, short to the baseball, average bat speed, 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.27 runner in the 60.
9. Andrew Gough, INF, Lake Forest, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound infielder, average frame and build. Defensively flashed plus arm strength across the diamond with carry, 88 mph, longer arm action, high ¾ slot, athletic action. Hands work, showed he can play through the baseball, average range. Arm strength will keep him on the left side. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, loads hands back, average balance. Good round with barrel control, hard contact with timing. Showed bat speed and strength, level path, line drive approach. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.51 runner in the 60.
10. Blake Munch, SS, Joliet Catholic, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound middle infielder, average frame with slight strength in build. Defensively showed advanced actions, softer hands, athletic footwork, plays through the baseball. Arm action is short high ¾ slot, accurate across with occasional carry, 82 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, slight leg kick stride, good balance. Line drive type hitter, level path, average bat speed, 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.30 runner in the 60.
10. Vincent Massaglia, INF/OF/.RHP, Morton, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound, right-handed hitting multi-positional prospect. Offensively, bat speed, fluid rhythm, uses the middle of the field and some looseness throughout; 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Balanced setup, quick leg-kick timing trigger and path works uphill at times. Defensively, worked out in the outfield and infield. Ability to play both positions. Hands work soft, fluid footwork with body control and flashes actions. Short, over-the-top arm action clocked at 82 mph across the infield and 84 mph from the outfield. Ran a 7.39 laser-timed 60. Also, a right-handed pitcher. Tall and fall delivery works with rhythm, stays on-line, lands closed and finishes athletically. Short, quick, loose arm from a high ¾ slot and regular effort throughout. Fastball, tilt, straight and sat 80-82 mph. Curveball, feel, sharp, late action action, 12/6 shape with depth and clocked at 69-70 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, fade action and sat 73-75 mph.

5-foot-10, 140-pound middle infielder. Right-handed hitter, tall setup, collapses lower half, average balance. Path has length, slightly uphill, late trigger, hits off back side. 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, ¾ slot, 82 mph across the diamond. Average hands, lets it get deep at times. 7.21 runner in the 60.
Brandon Bannon, C/2B, Richmond Burton, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting C/2B with a small, athletic frame. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Quick, footwork and exchange behind the plate. Popped 2.07-2.18 and threw 72 mph from the crouch. In the infield, plays fast with quick footwork. Arm slot is lower on the infield, threw 70 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a wide base with a leg kick stride. Loose, uphill swing path. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.06.
Brandon Bennitt, INF, Lincoln-Way Central, 2018
5-foot-8, 173-pound switch hitting infielder, strong stocky build. Slight open stance, leg kick stride. Looked stronger from the right side, 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Left-handed swing has some uphill path to it. Defensively arm action is short, high ¾ slot, average arm strength. 77 mph across the diamond. Likely profiles at second base, plays through the baseball, clean efficient transfer. 7.51 runner in the 60.
Kendall Bonner, OF/INF, Morgan Park, 2018
6-foot, 190-pound, strong, multi-positional prospect. Offensively, present bat speed, gap-to-gap approach, fluid rhythm, uphill path; 83 mph exit velocity. Wide setup, ability to maintain balance through contact. Defensively, worked out in the infield and outfield. Similar actions at both positions. Long arm action from an over the top slot; throws clocked at 78 mph from the outfield and 81 mph across the diamond. 7.46 runner in the laser timed 60.
Colin Caminitti, MIF/RHP, Streamwood, 2018
5-foot-7, 140-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, hands drop slight at load, collapses lower half. Bat path is level on longer path, 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short and over the top, average arm strength at 77 mph across the diamond. 8.05 runner in the 60. Arm works similarly on the mound. Fastball is straight, sat 74-76 mph, touched 77 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 67-70 mph. Changeup sinks, 70-72 mph.

6-foot-1, 190-pound, strong, two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, uphill path through the zone; 83 mph exit velocity. Balanced setup, back load, short stride. Defensively, long arm action from a high ¾ slot; throws clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. 7.83 runner in the laser timed 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, stays in line, lands square, finishes athletically. Short arm action from an over the top angle. Fastball, work mostly straight, sat 77-80 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 64-67 mph. Changeup, tendency to slow arm, 70-73 mph. Slider, short break, 74-75 mph.

5-foot-8, 150-pound, two-way player. On the mound, right handed pitcher, throws strikes. Tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, toe lands closed. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, thrown for strikes, mostly straight, sat 74-76 mph. Slider, 10/4 shape, 69-70 mph. Changeup, slight sink action, 68-69 mph. 6-foot-1, 175-pound, athletic, two-way player. Offensively, right-handed hitter, average bat speed, uphill path through the zone; 84 mph exit velocity. Wide, open setup, short stride. Defensively, worked out in the infield and outfield. Similar actions at both positions. Short arm action from a ¾ slot; throws clocked at 83 mph from the outfield and 79 mph across the diamond. 7.73 runner in the laser timed 60. 6-foot-1, 156-pound shortstop, lean athletic build, body projects for added strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, strong balance through contact. Loose hands, head stays quiet, above average bat speed. Path is short to the baseball, stays on top and gets occasional back spin, easy line drive contact. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Actiony defender on the infield, shows athleticism and plays through the baseball. Soft hands funnel to release, short over the top slot, showed carry and accuracy, 79 mph across the diamond. 7.36 runner in the 60.

6-foot-1, 170-pound, athletic, multi-positional player. Offensively, fluid rhythm, pull approach, average bat speed, uphill path through the zone; 84 mph exit velocity. Crouched, open setup with a leg kick. Defensively, worked out in the outfield and infield. Rangy body type, 6-foot, 160-pound middle infielder, projectable frame. Right-handed hitter, open stance, barrel tip load, leg kick trigger, average balance. Loose hands, path works, late at times with exaggerated load. 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively plays loose and showed actions. Arm plays over the top, long release to 81 mph arm across the diamond, lacked control. Ran the 60 at 7.93, laser timed.
Antonio Handley, MIF/RHP, Morgan Park, 2018
5-foot-8, 145-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick stride, good balance. Simple approach, singles hitter, middle of the field contact. Short path with average bat speed, 74 mph. Defensively showed above average glove work for his age, showed ability to play through the baseball. Some actions and body control. Arm action is short from a high ¾ slot, 82 mph across the diamond. On the mound fastball sat 75-76 mph, mostly straight. Curveball played at 67-70 mph. Changeup was best secondary pitch, fastball arm action 71-72 mph.
Dylan Hauck, INF, Crete-Monee, 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound infielder, lean lanky frame. Ran the 60 at 7.24. Right-handed hitter, tall open stance, leg kick stride, average balance. Loose hands, some whip through the zone, path has length on level plane. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is firm from a high ¾ slot. 82 mph across the diamond. Plays fast defensively, aggressively defends and plays through the baseball.
Matthew Helwig, 3B/RHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2018

6-foot-2, 215-pound switch hitting infielder, lean frame. Showed ability to hit equally from both sides, wide setup, even stance, heel lift stride. Showed aggressiveness from both sides of the plate with bat speed. 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.16 runner in the 60. Defensively arm plays over the top, 66 mph across the diamond.
Coliani Martinez, INF/OF, Holy Trinity, 2018
5-foot-10, 190-pound, multi-positional prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, pre-pitch hand waggle, exaggerated hand load and leg-kick timing trigger. Pull approach and level path through the zone; 89 mph exit velocity. Defensively, worked out in the outfield and infield. More comfortable in the infield. Hands work steady and out in front. Short arm from an over-the-top slot; clocked at 78 mph across the infield and 81 mph from the outfield. Also ran a 8.09 60.

Balanced setup with a long stride. Defensively, quick, clean exchange. 5-foot-10, 150-pound middle infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short leg lift stride, good balance through contact. Singles, spray type hitter, level path with line drive type contact. 70 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, over the top slot, average arm strength, 76 mph across the diamond. 7.88 runner in the 60. Showed softer hands, with good infield actions, plays through the baseball and showed confidence defensively. On the mound, fastball sat 73-75 mph, touched 76 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 60-64 mph.
Jacob Newman, RHP/1B, Glenbrook South, 2018
6-foot-3, 193-pound two-way player, solid frame, sturdy build. Projects best on the mound. Stretch only on the mound, showed feel for repertoire. Arm action is short and over the top. Fastball has arm side run, showed control of the zone, 82-83 mph, touched 84 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 65-68 mph. Has feel for changeup at 75-77 mph, arm side action thrown with arm speed. Defensively showed softer hands, arm played well across the diamond, short over the top slot. 81 mph across. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance. Uphill path with length, 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.65 runner in the 60.
JT Oie, C/3B/RHP, St. Charles North, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting utility player. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open stance. Short, heel lift stride with an uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.11. Defensively took drills behind the plate and in the infield. Short arm action from an over the top slot. Slower actions with average hands. Threw 76 mph across the infield. Behind the plate popped 2.22-2.37 and threw 70 mph from the crouch. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and easy effort. Fastball sat 72-73 topping out at 74 mph. Curveball has 10-4 shape at 64-67 mph. Changeup was straight at 68-70 mph.
Joey Pakula, RHP/3B, Lincoln-Way West, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound two-way player. On the mound uses a tall and fall type delivery, balanced finish. Arm works out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball topped at 76 mph, ranged 73-75 mph. Curveball thrown with fastball arm speed, 64-68 mph, 11/5 shape. Changeup is 70-71 mph. Right-handed hitter, short stride. Hits off back side, uphill path. 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is over the top, 72 mph across the diamond. Sits back on the baseball, actions played better when on the move. 7.65 runner in the 60.

Easton Stewart, MIF, Carmi-White, 2018
Stocky strong frame, 5-foot-11, 165-pound raw athletic middle infielder. Showed solid tools across the board. 7.09 runner in the 60. Defensively arm action is short and over the top, carried across with accuracy, 86 mph. Plays with effort, uptempo at times, average hands, quicker footwork. Right-handed hitter, tall setup, slight leg kick trigger with occasional dive. Showed bat speed, some violence in swing, 89 mph exit velocity from the tee.
