vs Kentucky: At 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and soon to be 23 years of age, Xavier shortstop and graduate student Jack Housinger was not the top pro prospect on the field, but he was the top baseball player in this game. With 16 home runs last spring his game power was already evident. And his first inning blast just to the left of dead center field backed up last season’s numbers as he turned around a 95 mph fastball from Kentucky starter Logan Martin. The left handed batter also added a double in his second plate appearance and played stellar defense throughout the scrimmage. With average arm strength he played low and showed quick hands with smooth, yet compact actions. Over the course of 12 innings, Housinger made three plays that most collegiate shortstops don’t sniff.
