Showcase Rewind: Georgia Underclass Games

The PBR Georgia Underclass Games took place on Sunday, May 28 at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, GA. The event featured nearly 40 prospects from the class of 2021 through 2023. The Underclass Games served as a primer for Team Georgia’s inaugural Future Games experience. This event produced five members of Team Georgia and numerous other prospects who received invites.

Carter Bailey 3B / RHP / Brookwood, GA / 20216-foot-1, 185 pound two-way player; athletic, strong build. Offensively, balanced setup, simple load with loose wrists. Small leg kick. Bat speed accelerates through the zone; exit velo of 76 mph off tee. Produced consistent hard hit balls in the air during round of BP; showed ability to hit to all fields. Defensively, worked out at third base. Showed quick first step with athletic actions; loose glove. Can make throws from different arm angles. On the mound, slight tilt back on draw, H3/4 slot, closed landing. Clean arm action. Showed life on fastball; topped at 82 mph. Two different shaped breaking balls. 12/6 curveball showed tumbling downward action; plays well off arm slot, 68-70 mph. Slider had 11/5 action at 75 mph. |
Brett Blomquist C / SS / Allatoona , GA / 20216-foot-1, 171 pound build; lean frame with room for additional strength. Advanced all-around player with versatile profile. Showed well at the plate with slightly back-loaded stance. Gets hand separation on load, level swing with active lower-half; body works in sync and stays on time. Barrel stays through zone. Athletic behind the plate with good carry on throws; 1.99 pop time. In the infield, had good instincts, very athletic footwork; plays aggressively to ball. Lateral movement is quick. Also worked out in OF; athletic approach to ball, works through well into crow-hop. Looked comfortable in all positions. 6.90 runner. |
Coulson Buchanan RHP / OF / North Gwinnett, GA / 2021Rankings StateRank: 32 / POS: 13
5-foot-10, 150 pounds; strong player that will continue to add strength and speed. Has present speed, running a 6.89 laser-timed 60. Offensively, hits from an upright, slightly open stance. Simple load and stride. Slightly rotational swing and looks to get hands extended. 82mph tee exit velocity. Balanced throughout. Impressed on the mound, topping 86 with FB. Quiet delivery and calm balance point. Glove separates early and has a low frontside. Slightly closed landing on short stride-length. Showed a CH at 76-77 mph with same arm speed as FB. Curveball worked low at 72-74; developing feel. |
Kameron Byrd OF / SS / Grayson, GA / 20225-foot-11, 142 pounds; high-waisted frame. Hits from a loose, athletic stance. Good tempo with body leading into pitch. Hits off of backside and uses lower-half well at the plate with aggressive hips leading to contact. Front leg solid upon connection. Keeps head down on contact and sprays ball to all fields. Showed ability to go down and barrel pitch low in the zone. 83 mph tee exit velo. Outfielder with simple feet and approach, defensively. Plays through baseball aggressively. Falls back slightly on throws; 79 mph from OF. |
Jayden Carbonell Smith SS / 2B / Cambridge , GA / 20215-foot-10, 150 pounds; slim frame with quick twitch potential. High energy athlete; ran 6.88 laser timed 60. At the plate, calm tempo leading into hesitation toe-tap timing. Front hip leaks forward on swing, but clears through upon contact. Gets on frontside at times; shows good barrel control even when getting out front. Good bat speed with strength that will come. At shortstop, showed athletic, quick actions and played on the balls of feet. Gets around baseball and plays through it quickly to target. Accurate throws to first. |
Joe Cutia 3B / 1B / Gylnn, GA / 2021Rankings StateRank: 102 / POS: 8
6-foot-1, 195 pounds; strong lower half. Physical in the box. High hands with active tempo. Slight toe-tap timing and comes forward with body on swing; back foot comes forward. Swing stays on slight uphill swing path. Has good strength and bat speed; produced 90 mph on tee exit velocity. Defensively, profiles well at 3B. Quick steps with good lateral movement. Funnels ball in and sets feet on all throws. Confident hands, 74 across the infield. |
Blake Dean RHP / OF / North Cobb Christian, GA / 20236-foot, 150 pound two-way player with a projectable frame. Closed stance at the plate with a loose swing. Hovers front foot on load. Easy hands that have the ability to hit the ball the other way. Active lower-half. Fundamental skill set in the OF, active feet on approach and works towards target. Decent carry on throws; 80 mph from position. On the mound, shows a three-pitch-mix. |
Parker Doyle SS / 2B / North Paulding , GA / 20215-foot-8, 155-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder, lean build. Offensively, open setup, short stride, starts with hands back, front shoulder closed, loads into an arm bar. Line drive hitter, uses the whole field, one handed finish, 71 exit velocity off a tee. Defensively, short arm action, ¾ slot, average arm speed, 75 across the infield. Fields position out front, clean on footwork and transfers. Ran a 7.39 laser-timed 60. |
Connor Ensman C / 3B / Pinecrest, GA / 20216-foot, 153-pound right-handed hitting catcher, long frame, projectable. Offensively, open setup, leg lift stride, high hands drop on load, remains balanced. Takes a gap-to-gap approach, lets the ball travel deep, barrel works uphill through the zone, elevates the ball, 78 exit velocity. Ran a 7.27 60 yard dash. Defensively, arm action is short from a ¾ slot, kept throws around bag, 72 out of the crouch. Soft receiver, plays through the ball, clean on transfers, quick footwork, recorded a best pop time of 2.01. |
Harry Ford C / OF / North Cobb, GA / 2021Georgia Tech commit. 5-foot-10, 180-pounds right-handed hitting catcher, strong, athletic frame, quick twitch muscle. Offensively, balanced setup, short toe-drag stride, hands load back smoothly,engages strong lower half, good rhythm throughout. Gap-to-gap type hitter with pull-side pop, easy effort in swing, drives the ball, quick hands explode through contact, recorded a 91 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively, as advanced as it gets in the 2021 class. Arm works short and loose from an over-the-top slot, premium arm strength for the position, accurate on throws, 83 mph out of the crouch. Athleticism lends itself well in his setup, flexibility throughout lower half, quick and clean on transfers, quick, fluid footwork, extremely quick to release, recorded a best pop time of 1.97. One of the top defensive catchers in the country. |
Jackson Gaspard 2B / RHP / Buford, GA / 20226-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting utility-player, athletical build with room for physicality, has the ability to play virtually every position on the field, and to a high degree. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, high hands smoothly drop on load, remains balanced throughout contact, one-handed finish. Gap-to-gap type hitter, barrel works smoothly uphill through the zone, little effort in swing, 86 exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.28 laser-timed 60. Defensively, short arm action, high ¾ slot, quick arm speed and loose wrist, 76 out of the crouch. Athletic setup, quick on transfers with fluid footwork, gets rid of it in a hurry, recorded a best pop time of 2.02. Up the middle, arm works loosely from a ¾ slot, plenty of strength to stick on the left-side, 83 across the infield. OFfensively, balanced setup, long stride, hands start low and drop on load with a barrel wrap. Quick, loose hands to the ball, barrel works mostly level, can get uphill at-times, uses the whole field, showed pull-side pop, 83 exit velocity. Defensively, short arm action, draw straight back, flicks it across the infield, 76 mph. Fields position with athleticism, solid footwork, clean on transfers. |
Jacob Gay 3B / SS / Southeast Bulloch, GA / 20215-foot-10, 180-pounds, right-handed hitting third baseman, strong, durable build. Offensively, wide, open setup, leg lift stride, short load back, finishes over the plate. Power hitter, looks to elevate the ball with an uphill barrel path, some inconsistency with timing, 88 exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.31 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, short load and stride, remains balanced, smooth rhythm.
