Updated and Expanded 2021 Rankings
December 12, 2018
With the fall season concluded, the 2021 Overall Rankings have been updated and expanded, with SS Luke Leto holding on to the No. 1 though a multitude of others present strong cases, as well. While much of the list remains the same from the last update, the expansion from 250 to 300, along with the introduction of Nevada, has allowed for a strong group of players to enter for the first time.
Speaking of Nevada, OF/RHP Thomas Dilandri (Bishop Gorman HS, NV), a Texas Christian recruit, and RHP Tyler Whitaker (Arbor View HS, AZ), an Arizona recruit, enter the top 50 in the new rankings. Dilandri is a physical outfielder with a strong arm and repertoire on the mound. At 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, Dilandri is advanced physically, and has the potential to be a dynamic, power-hitting outfielder. Whitaker is a highly-projectable, 6-foot-4, 175-pound right-hander who already possesses some of the top feel for pitching in the class. His quick arm and confidence in multiple offspeed pitches will likely continue to elevate him in the future as he fills out.
RHP Owen Flynn (Windermere HS, FL), 3B/RHP Shane Martin (Grand Oaks HS, TX), RHP Ty Uber (Ponderosa HS, CA), and SS Noah Miller (Ozaukee HS, WI) all made big climbs into the top 100.
Owen Flynn RHP / 3B / Windermere, FL / 2021Flynn features a loose, continuous arm stroke, and utilizes his long limbs to get extension out front. His fastball effortlessly works in the mid 80s with some developing feel for both a breaking ball and changeup. The 6-foot-3, 160-pound right-hander will likely fill out considerably over the next few years, and has the potential to make another big jump.
|
Shane Martin 3B / RHP / Grand Oaks, TX / 2021Martin, now a Wichita State recruit, possesses lean, defined strength throughout a physical, 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Balanced in his approach at the plate, rocking his hands back with a leg kick, Martin’s quick hands strike the bat through the zone to produce impressive gap to gap power (92 mph exit velocity off the tee). The athletic infielder also showcases a strong arm on the mound where his fastball works at 85-87 with more likely on the way.
|
Ty Uber OF / RHP / Ponderosa, CA / 2021At 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, Uber stands intimidatingly, high atop the mound. Also a receiver on the football team, the athletic right-hander has a high ceiling, and could eventually emerge as the top prospects in the state. The Stanford recruit’s fastball takes a downward angle through the zone, comfortably at 85-87. Utilizing an explosive delivery, Uber exhibits the ability to manipulate the shape of a sharp, power breaking ball (74-76), and the pitch has a chance to be a plus offering in the future. |
Noah Miller SS / RHP / Ozaukee, WI / 2021SS Noah Miller, an Alabama recruit, confidently tracks pitches from both sides of the plate before spraying line drives to all fields. Still developing physically at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, Miller may find even more power as he gets stronger. Perhaps his best tool, Miller’s glovework and quick release give him a chance to be a potential game-changing defender at the next level.
