Once again, the Florida Diamond Club Classic saw the best seniors in the state of Florida come out to the Detroit Tigers’ spring training complex for a weekend of workouts and games in front of many scouts and college coaches. Some top prospects—like RHP Austin Bergner (Windermere Prep, FL), LHP Jesus Luzardo (Stoneman Douglas HS, FL) and 3B Bo Bichette (Lakewood HS, FL)—weren't in attendance, but there was still plenty of talent to see.
As I begin to write reports on players I saw, I wanted to share some quick thoughts on highlights from the weekend. On the North squad, LHP Cole Ragans (North Florida Christian School, FL) is still a potential high draft. At 6-foot-4, he has a very projectable body with a good arm action and delivery, along with a fastball that was 88-90 mph. His secondary stuff was average. RHP DJ Roberts (Atlantic Coast HS, FL) showed very well, with a fastball up to 91. It was downhill with life. He also showed an above-average changeup with the same life, and a very good breaking ball. I thought his pitchability was much improved. He looked more like a pitcher than a thrower.
