The 2020 FL Preseason All-State Showcase was filled with some of the top talent in the state of Florida. The event featured prospects from the 2020-2024 classes participating in a pro-style workout followed by two games in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff. Today, we will take a look at analysis of Team Red with scouting reports and video.

Team Red

Connor Chang 1B / OF / NSU University School , FL / 2022

Projectable, athletic frame with strength throughout. Really athletic around the bag at first, showing well above average hands and picking ability. Offensively, he’s compact and connected. Possesses good bat speed, finishes the swing high. Showed ability to go the other way and hit the gaps with authority. Power potential could develop into well above average pop. Really athletic first baseman.

Jack Cue OF / Archbishop Edward McCarthy, FL / 2021

Future Games participant with loud tools, especially in the power/speed combo. When he’s on time, he can really do damage with high exit velocities in the mid 90s. Really athletic frame with strength throughout. Possesses base stealing speed and instincts. Has an above average arm in the outfield. Really talented prospect, some swing development away from true next level impact.

Matthew Donley 3B / RHP / George W. Jenkins, FL / 2022

Physical frame with strong legs. Slightly above average defender in the infield, stands out with the bat. He has whippy bat speed and a chance to develop a lot of power. With a little better lower half and less pull side emphasis, he can be a dangerous presence in any lineup. Doubled and singled in gameplay.

Carter French OF / LHP / Jesuit, FL / 2022

Tall, lean frame. Some upside both on the mound and positionally. Sat 80-81 on the mound. Curveball was above average at 72-73 with a 12-6 shape. Deliberate delivery with good timing and sink into the backside. Gets some arm side run on the fastball at times. Command is there. In the outfield, the arm was right around 80 with a quick release. Had some impressive rounds of BP with a lot of barrels in the middle of the field. Creates a good line to and through the ball. Has rhythm and good extension. Interesting follow as he matures.

Ryan Fry RHP / 3B / Wharton , FL / 2022

Big athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. Sat an easy 82-84, touching 86 with the fastball. Has good rhythm and timing in the delivery. Above average command of all pitches including a 68-70 mph curveball with some lateness and sharpness to it. Kept the ball down well, has a cool and calm demeanor that will help him in big games.

Julian Hernandez C / 2B / Keys Gate, FL / 2023

Junior Future Games stand out and he continues to progress and mature. Good connection and path in the swing. Showed whippy hands on offense and quick exchanges behind the plate on defense. 1.94-1.99 pop times. Like the athleticism to play catcher and showed some ability and range at 2B as well.

Brady Johnston SS / 2B / Steinbrenner, FL / 2023

Long, high waisted frame. Smooth, easy effort swing. Loose actions on both sides of the ball and a projectable frame. Really like the potential to be an above average gap to gap hitter from the left side with added strength.

Titan Kamaka SS / 3B / Olympia, FL / 2022

FSU commit has a lot of upside as a middle infielder with a live arm, athleticism and high offensive potential. Ran a 6.96 sixty with smooth, natural strides. Good chance he gains speed as he continues to mature into his body. The arm is loose at 87 and I liked the active, athletic feet. Gap to gap hitter presently but has some power potential in the simple, clean swing. It has leverage and a direct path. Showed a really quick bat turning on an inside fastball for a line drive single in gameplay.

Xavier Lopez OF / LHP / Lake Nona , FL / 2022

The left hander had a gutsy performance getting several really good hitters out. He missed barrels by hitting the corners and flashing an above average curveball. He sat 74-76 and topped 78 with some arm side run. Showed potential offensively with good hip movements and some bat speed.

Sebastian Martinez RHP / 3B / Plant , FL / 2021

2019 Future Games participant has continued to progress. His fastball jumped into the 83-85 area and he topped at 87. Some deception in the delivery and gets downhill well. Has command of the bottom of the zone and showed feel for the offspeed. Tight spin on the above average curveball. High tempo worker and high follow.

Quentin Meadows SS / 3B / King, FL / 2022

Was a standout at the Top Tier Roos tryout and he continued to show potential for an electric toolbox. Quick smooth hands in the infield, was 81-82 across. Offensively, he starts tall and gets into launch with a whippy, hands load. Creates good leverage in the movements. Currently gap to gap with some power potential.

Matthew Morelli OF / SS / Venice, FL / 2021

Like the gap to gap ability from the left side with some speed. Balanced in the box and showed good bat speed and some strength to get the ball in the air with authority. Can clean up some of his defensive actions but there’s definitely potential to improve that side of the ball with his athleticism.

Brady Neal C / 3B / North Florida Christian, FL / 2023

The LSU commit has a stocky, strong frame with big tools. He’s really quick behind the plate with an above average arm at 79 down to second. Elite 1.85-1.91 pop times during the workout portion. Offensively, he has strength in the lower half from the left side and power potential. When he connects, you can already see the big pop in the bat. Reached 90+ EV.

Liam O'Neil 1B / 3B / Episcopal School of Jacksonville , FL / 2023

Large frame with a whippy swing. Starts tall in the box, gets into a good power position with hip coil. Natural lift in the path, when he connects it goes a long way. Serious raw power. Potential for real game power. Defensively he’s slightly below average at first base. There’s some athletic movements and a chance the hands improve. Big offensive upside on this prospect.

Drew Reaves SS / OF / J.M. Tate, FL / 2023

Athletic frame with long levers. Like the direction and power step in the infield. He showed a 78 arm velo across and I like the chance of the arm getting a lot stronger. There’s some pull side pop and barrel ability with feel in the box. Showed some advanced movements including a scissor action with the lower half. 87 top exit velocity.

Matthew Rose 3B / SS / Clearwater Central Catholic, FL / 2022

Stand out from the Top Tier Roos tryout. Athletic frame with some strength in the lower half. Advanced defensive actions with clean, soft feet. On offense, he really stays behind the ball and gets on plane with good bat speed. The feet are quiet in the box as well and his barrel ability is above average. Swing has a lot of snappiness and leverage. He stays behind the ball well with above average bat speed. 89 exit velo and gets it in the air.

Elijah Scadina 3B / RHP / TFA, FL / 2022

A lot of offensive upside in the long, projectable frame. Had two hits in gameplay, including a deep opposite field double. Has a compact swing with a whippy bat speed and a lot of balance and feel in the box. Present strength in the lower half. Has the frame and arm that will play in the outfield. Like the offensive ability more than on the mound.

Luke Shannahan 1B / 3B / St Johns Country Day , FL / 2021

Big frame on the left handed hitting first baseman. Solid hands on defense with a clean arm that has some strength. Showed ability and athleticism to throw from different slots. Physical lower half, uses his hips well on offense. Power potential in the bat. Will be an interesting follow to see how the power progresses. Had a hard hit single in gameplay.
