2020 Florida ProCase: Catcher Analysis

The 2020 PBR Florida ProCase was a loaded event that featured the top 2021 and 2022 prospects from around the state of Florida. The event took place past Friday, May 29th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The players went through a pro-style workout which was followed up by BP on the field and a simulated game.

This week we will be breaking down all the players in attendance by position. Today, we continue with the catchers. We will breakdown each catcher in attendance with scouting reports and video.

Gio Cueto C / 3B / Belen Jesuit Prep, FL / 2021
Positional Profile: C/3B, Wake Forest
Body: 6-foot, 190-pounds. Has a strong, athletic frame. Slightly high waisted, room to grow.
Defense: 1.93-2.08 pop times. Slightly open crouch, quick exchange, fluid footwork. Good defending catcher.
Arm: RH. C - 80 mph. Has a short, over the top arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts with an open, athletic setup. Smooth leg lift into a short stride. Late, quiet hand load. Swings a long, leveled bat path with natural lift. Ball jumps off barrel, getting extension through swing.
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power, up the middle approach with average bat speed.

Jaime Ferrer C / OF / TNXL Academy, FL / 2021
Positional Profile: C/OF, Florida State
Body: 6-foot-1, 198-pounds. Has a strong, athletic, compact frame. High waisted.
Defense: 1.88-2.00 pop times. Centered setup behind the plate with good feet. Quick accurate arm from behind the plate. From the OF, fields the ball off the left side of the body, one handed gather, choppy footwork.
Arm: RH. C - 82 mph. OF - 93 mph. Has a long high 3/4 arm slot from the OF. Short 3/4 arm slot from behind the plate.
Hit: RHH. Starts with a wide balanced setup, knee bend/heel up toe down lift. Hands load back, with barrel tilt load. Swings a short, level bat path. Loose hands, squaring up baseball.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power, line drive, gap to gap approach with fast bat speed.
Run: 6.86 runner in the 60. Runs with long, choppy strides.

Tayden Hall C / 1B / Steinbrenner , FL / 2021
Positional Profile: C/1B, USF
Body: 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. Has a high waisted, tall, strong, athletic build, with long legs.
Defense: 1.95-2.10 pop times. Tall setup behind the plate, gaining ground.
Arm: RH. C - 76 mph. Has a short, high 3/4 arm slot, with accurate throws to 2B.
Hit: LHH. Starts with a tall, open set up, while loading back and down with a barrel tilted load, and toe tap stride. Shows an uphill bat path with natural lift, swinging with intent while staying inside of baseball.
Power: 100 mph exit velocity from the tee. Squares up baseball causing the ball to jump off the barrel, uses a confident line drive powered approach with fast bat speed.
Run: 7.41 runner in the 60. Long stride runner.

Positional Profile: C/OF, North Carolina
Body: 6-foot-2, 193-pounds. Has a tall, strong, compact, athletic frame. High waisted.
Defense: 1.84-2.18 pop times. Slightly open crouch setup, confident receiver, quick, strong action body movements, gaining ground on throws to 3B, strong walled blocker.
Arm: RH. C - 76 mph. Has a short, strong, over the top arm slot. Above average accuracy.
Hit: LHH. Starts with a wide balanced, athletic setup. Knee bend/heel up, toe down lift into a short stride. Hands load back and up. Swings a level bat path, with natural lift. Squares baseball up, easy swinger.

Body: 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. Has a tall, strong, compact, athletic setup.
Defense: 1.85-1.95 pop times. Tall, side athletic setup behind the plate. Quiet receiver with quick exchange. Strong wall blocker.
Arm: RH. C - 81 mph. Has a short, over the top arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts with wide balanced, athletic setup. No leg lift, short stride. Hands load back. Shows a level bat path, with natural lift, baseball jumps off of barrel.

Positional Profile: C/3B, FIU
Body: 5-foot-9, 170-pounds. Has a compact, athletic build. Proportional frame.
Defense: 1.87-2.03 pop times. Athletic, centered setup. Gains ground throwing to bags, showed arm accuracy throwing from knees.
Arm: RH. C - 78 mph. Has a quick, over the top arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts with a tall, athletic balanced setup. High leg kick, into a short stride. Hands load back and down. Swings a level bat path. Staying inside baseball, getting extension through swing.
Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power, line drive approach. Gap to gap hitter.

Hit: Switch. Starts with a wide balanced, athletic setup. Knee hitched load into a short stride. Hands load back and down. Swings a short, uphill bat path. Squares up baseball, swings athletically from both sides of the plate as a switch hitter.

Defense: 2.00-2.08 pop times. Slightly open, tall setup behind the plate. Body leans towards the target on throw. Showed average blocking in drills.

Hit: RHH. Starts with a tall crouched setup, quick leg lift, into a short stride. Hands load back and down. Swings a downhill bat path, staying inside of baseball with extension through swing.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap to gap, power approach with quick bat speed.
Run: 8.02 runner in the 60. Runs with long, slow strides.
