LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2021 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers and now it's time for a few of the top ranked left-handed pitchers in the state for 2021 class. You can read full available scouting reports and view available video by clicking on the the player name.

THE PLAYERS

#4 LUKE JEWETT - JSERRA - UCLA COMMIT

Top ranked right-hander passes the eye test with an overall body of work that will make him a successful pitcher at the next level. Repeatable clean arm action allowing him to command his three-pitch mix at an advanced level. Safe bet right-hander down the line.

#6 ERIC SILVA - LAGUNA BEACH - UCLA COMMIT

Athletic skill set with a fastball that tops at 95 mph and a swing and miss slider that shows plus ability. Successful short-stop that could greatly benefit on the mound with a full time switch which would give him high upside.

#37 JAKE SAPIEN - BUHACH COLONY - STANFORD COMMIT

Sapien has one of the quickest arms in Northern California and he shows it off both on the mound and at third base. Overall resume is impressive as he has a good feel for the game and shows it on the mound with his command, poise and pitch arsenal.

#51 JOHNNIE VALDEZ JR. - DON LUGO - UCSB COMMIT

Wiry athletic frame with twitchy strength, creating good down the line upside and projection. The type of athlete and arm Coach Andrew Checketts has had a lot of success with in his coaching career.

#69 RAY CEBULSKI - EASTLAKE - LONG BEACH COMMIT

Arguably the top 2021 right-handed arm in the San Diego section. Good feel for the game and features plus-feel for the breaking ball. Athleticism and upper 80’s fastball could find him on the 2021 MLB draft radar.
