Game Notes: Yucaipa v JSerra
February 21, 2019
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA. - On what started out as a nice sunny SoCal afternoon turned into a downright cold evening/night in San Juan Capistrano as JSerra (#9 in Power 25) hosted Yucaipa (#8 in Power 25) in a Newport Elks Tournament quarterfinal game. Because of the nature of the recent weather SoCal has been experiencing coupled with this being a tournament, both teams were playing a game for a third straight day meaning they were extended deep into their pitching staffs.
Yucaipa went with senior Julian Alvarez, an outfielder by trade who will eat up some innings this season for Yucaipa, while JSerra countered with freshman righty Tristan Lamaison who more than held his own in his first varsity outing.
The game was a deadlock through two innings before the action began. Yucaipa scored two in their half of the third. Jserra answered with two in their half of the inning before tacking on three more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Yucaipa would score three to tie it in the top of the sixth on a bases on a bases clearing double by Jordan Andrade. The lead was short lived as JSerra would score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-5 lead. Yucaipa added on in the seventh for the final score of 9-6.
