Washington commit. 5-foot-11, 165lbs. Small/medium, proportional, athletic frame that seems to be making significant physical gains. Shows quick, strong hands with plus bat speed and the ability to drive balls in the gap with authority. Power tool is developing, but his game is to pound the ball into the gaps and get on base. Andrade is a rangy defender that can make all the throws from all angles. He has the capacity to stay at shortstop into the college ranks, but see his future on the right side of the diamond at the pro level.
Washington recruit. Andrade looked noticeably stronger than the last time that I saw him, and he now sports proportional strength throughout his 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. That strength comes across in his approach to the ball, and he did not get cheated when hunting pitches on the day. Starting with his hands held high by the ear, a leg kick drops them down and back with a strong, slightly uphill approach through the zone. His quick hands are aided by more aggressive use of the lower-half, and he hammered a line drive single to left field. Athletic actions in the field should allow him to play any spot on the dirt, including shortstop at the next level.
Andrade shows the tools that should allow him an opportunity to stick at the position when he steps on campus. He’s twitchy in his actions and shows excellent range to both sides which he pairs with a strong, accurate arm on the infield. He understands the nuances of the position and gets excellent reads off the bat. He is seemingly always in the proper position to receive and release the ball. His footwork is above average and his instincts are plus. At the plate he takes aggressive hacks through the ball making it looks as though he’s looking to hit one out rather than drive it under control. He got a hold of one and drove it into left-center field for a bases clearing three-RBI double to tie the game late. It was the best swing of the day and he was reward. He was balanced with his weight and his hands/barrel in position to get extended through the ball which he did. It was a glimpse of the potential he has with the bat.
