By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director
Four players from the Arkansas High School baseball ranks were selected in the Major League Baseball draft last June. This is a large number for players from Arkansas. This speaks volume to the talent level of the 2015 class. One of the deepest classes in recent memory. Here is a look at back each player and where they were selected in the draft.
Grey Fenter 7th round 223rd pick Baltimore Orioles
Fenter is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound right-hander with a large frame and a thick build. He attacked the strike zone with a fastball that sat 92-94 mph and touched 96 mph in the 5 innings he pitched. He showed average command of a sharp slider 79-82 mph, which was a big reason for the 10 strike outs he had on the day. Fenter signed with the Orioles late in the summer and had a success early. He had 9 appearances with 8 starts throwing 21.2 innings while striking out 18 with an ERA of 1.66.
Daniel Sprinkle 15th round 454th pick Cleveland Indians
Sprinkle is a 6-foot-4, 235-pound Right-hander with a large frame and a physical body. Sprinkle commanded his fastball for strikes consistently at 89-92 mph and was still 88-91 mph in the sixth. He works from an H ¾ arm slot, with a quick arm. His fastball is heavy with arm side run. He flashed a curveball at 67-69 mph with 10/4 shape and gradual action. The curveball has shown improvement due to better arm speed. His changeup had a shorter arm action and was consistently down out of the strike zone. Sprinkle did not come to terms with the Indians and enrolled at Auburn University in the fall.
John Boushelle 20th Round 612th pick Los Angeles Dodger
Boushelle is a 6-foot-6 185-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He works from an H ¾ arm slot with a clean arm action. He pounds the strike zone with a fastball 85-88 mph. He throws a curveball with near fastball arm speed and depth. He has an understanding on how to pitch he just needs time to mature physically. Boushelle did not reach terms with the Dodgers and enrolled in Kansas State University
Andy Pagnozzie 36th Round 1067th pick Colorado Rockies
Pagnozzi is a 6-foot 185-pound right hander with an average frame and an athletic build. He is an advanced pitcher showing command of four pitches. His fastball works 85-88 mph. He compliments the fastball with a curveball, slider and change up all thrown with fastball arm speed. His slider is his strike out pitch thrown with late sharp break. His ability to throw strikes comes from his ability and execution of repeating his delivery and rhythm on a consistent basis. Pagnozzi did not come to terms with the Rockies and enrolled in the University of Mississippi
