Top Prospects Game participant Jakob Henry committed to University of Central Arkansas this summer. The 6-foot-4 Left-Hander had a great year this spring for Conway Christian High School and stepped his game up pitching for the Arkansas Prospects this summer. I had the opportunity to talk to him about the recruiting process and how he made his decision.
PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the College of your choice?
Henry: UCA was the best fit for me. It was close to home and has a great game day atmosphere. I felt comfortable with the coaching staff and they are really focused on player development.
PBR: Where did they first see you compete?
Henry: High School conference game my freshman season. I also attended a prospect camp at UCA last year where I got to know them much better
PBR: When did you take your first official or unofficial visit College of your choice?
Henry: September 2014
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Henry: They said I'd have a chance to compete for time on the mound as a freshman as well as have a chance to earn some swings.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Henry: Arkansas, Arkansas State, Henderson State, Campbell University
PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them?
Henry: Rawlings Prospects. I have played in the Rawlings Organization since I was 7 years old. It has been a great experience for me as I have been able to play against the top talent around year in and year out. The organization also seems to have great relationships with many college coaches which is really nice to have.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Henry: Ronnie Goodwin and my summer coach Andy Menard. They have both helped me develop as a baseball player.
PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?
Henry: BA .387, 19 RBI, 4 HR Pitching: 50.2 Innings, 97K, 17BB, 26Hits, 5-2 record
