By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Here is a look at the catcher evaluations from the North Arkansas Prospect ID that was hosted at Arkansas Fort Smith on Wednesday, July 15th.

Quinn Cherry, 2017, C, Harrison HS
Cherry is a 6-foot-2 170-pound C/OF with a large frame and an athletic build. He impressed with his bat spraying balls to all fields with a compact swing. He attacked the baseball with fast bat speed generating exit speeds up to 91 mph. Defensively he has a strong accurate arm. He threw a 1.97, 2.06, and 2.17. He throw times will be more consistent as he shortens his elongated exchange. He receives the ball with soft hands and maintains good arm angles. Overall Cherry is a physically gifted player that as he refines his tools, he will become a good collegiate player.

Trent Swaim, 2016, C, Batesville HS
Swaim is a 6-foot-2 175-pound C/INF with a medium frame and an athletic build. He throws pop times ranging between 2.00-2.09, consistently on the bag. He has a quick exchange but a long arm circle. His footwork is sound behind the plate. He receives well maintaining proper glove angles and shows good effort to work around the baseball while blocking. Offensively he starts from a tall stance, he drops his hands down during his load and attacks the baseball with a line drive swing. He has a feel for the barrel and produced exit velocities up to 83 mph.

Chris Pardun, 2016, C, Har-Ber HS
Pardun is 5-foot-11 185-pound C with a medium frame and an athletic build. He has sound throwing mechanics with a quick exchange and fluid release. He threw a 1.97-2.10 pop times. He starts from an athletic stance while receiving. He receives the baseball with soft hands maintains proper glove angles. Offensively he produced exit velocities up to 82 mph. He has a short compact swing. He does a good job maintaining balance through extension. I would like to see him stay connected in his lower half. Overall Pardun is a solid defender that has a swing that should hit for average.

Weston Sagely, 2017, C, Greenwood HS
Sagely, is a 5-foot-7 165-pound C with a medium frame and physical build. His raw bat speed was impressive, he produced exit velocity up 90 mph. He has a compact swing with a line drive swing plane. He did a good job in batting practice showing pull power. Defensively he threw pop times ranging from 2.15-2.28. His arm is accurate with some carry, his pop times could improve if he would stay lower through his throwing motion.
