Arkansas Tech Adds Two During Early Signing Period

Arkansas Tech University signed two in-state players early, 2017 MIF Hayes Cox and 2017 C Carter Thessing. They also added 2015 grad Will Klek from Carl Albert State College who played his high school baseball in Fort Smith.
2017 MIF/RHP Hayes Cox, Fayetteville HS
Cox is a 5-foot-10 180-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He showed the ability to earn the right to compete as a two way player at the next level. On the mound his fastball worked 82-84 mph and was as high as 85 mph. He competed in the strike zone with his breaking ball as well at 70-72 mph with late break. As a position player he showed an advanced defensive skill set playing through the baseball with fluid footwork, a quick exchange and strong accurate arm. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a toe tap and back hand load, and he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and a line drive swing. He showed the ability to hit balls to all fields. Overall Cox is a competitive player with a high motor and the ability to be a pitcher or position player.
Thessing is a 5-foor-10 170-pound catcher from Russellville High School. He caught for the cyclones in the spring of 2016. He played last summer with Express Baseball. He is a solid athlete running his 60 in 7.15. Offensively he produces exit velocities up to 86 mph. defensively he does a sound job blocking and receiving with proper technique and consistent effort.
