Arkansas State Commits 5 Arkansans in Early Signing Period

Arkansas State commits five players from the 2017 class in the early signing period.
Jaylen Deshazier, RHP, Pine Bluff HS
Deshazier is a 6-foot-1 180-pound RHP/SS with a projectable frame and an athletic build. He uses a loose arm from a H ¾ arm slot. He does a sound job repeating his simple delivery. He maintains balance throughout. His fastball works 84-86 mph with late cut action. He compliments the fastball with an 11/5 curveball thrown 74-76 mph. His changeup has depth and arm side run 70-72 mph. He plays through the baseball defensive with fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Offensively he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed. He shows an advanced feel for the barrel and some pull side power. He runs a 6.8 in the 60. Overall a versatile baseball player that will be a solid collegiate player with some aptitude to play either position moving forward.
Deshazier is the No. 7 ranked player in the Arkansas rankings the No.2 RHP, he is also ranked 298 nationally and 103rd RHP.
Korey Wasson, RHP, Hot Springs HS
Wasson is a 6-foot 180-pound RHP with an athletic frame and build. Wasson pitches from an H ¾ arm slot with quick arm. He repeats his delivery consistently. His fastball works 88-91 mph with late life through the strike zone. He compliments his fastball with a curveball thrown 73-76 mph with 11/5 shape and early break. Overall Wasson is a solid athlete with a quick arm, he projects to get better as he makes some mechanical adjustments.
Wasson is the No. 15 ranked player in the state of Arkansas and the No. 7 RHP.
Pierce Mitchum, OF, Heber Springs HS
Mitchum is a 5-foot-9 160-pound outfielder with a medium frame and physical build. He played through the baseball with a fluid exchange and an accurate arm. He registered up to 83 mph throwing from the outfield. Offensively he has a short lined drive swing with fast bat speed. He produced exit velocity up to 89 mph. Mitchum is a premium athlete running a 6.59 and the 60. Overall Mitchum is an advanced athlete with above average defensive skills and instincts.
Mitchum is the No. 17 ranked player in the Arkansas rankings the No. 2 OF.
Tyler Moreland, OF/RHP, Genoa Central HS
Moreland is a 6-foot-4 195-pound OF/RHP with a large frame and a projectable build. He ran a 6.71 in the 60. Defensively he played through the baseball with fluid footwork. He has a smooth exchange and throws the ball 86 mph with a clean arm action. Offensively he starts from a tall stance with slight load and a tall stance. He attacks the baseball with fast bat speed producing exit velocities up to 97 mph. On the Moreland works 84-87 mph in the bottom half of the strike zone. He also commanded a slider 76-79 mph with late 10/4 break. He does a sound job repeating his rhythm and mechanics. Overall Moreland is big time athlete that continues to show an increase in production on the field

Andrew Lannon, C, Armorel HS
Lannon is a 5-foot-10 175-pound catcher with an athletic frame and build. Defensively he is a sound receiver maintaining proper glove angles, he also shows sound technique and effort blocking. He throws a 1.93-2.03 pop times. Offensively he attacks the baseball with a line drive swing and fast bat speed. He has a feel for the barrel on a consistent basis. Athletically he runs a 7.31 in the 60.
