As the summer kicks off and all eyes turn to the 2016 class we look at the top available players in this class position by position. Here is a look at the top 5 Left-Handed Pitchers.
Dylan Thompson, LHP, Catholic High School
Thompson is a 6-foot-3 180-pound left-hander with an athletic frame and build. Thompson works from an H ¾ arm slot with a loose arm action. He commanded his fastball in the zone with some sink at 84-87 mph. He compliments his fastball with a 1/7 curveball 68-71 mph and a change up with arm-side run. He has repeatable mechanics and good balance. Thompson projects to throw harder as he matures, but he has advanced pitchability.
Collin Cahill, LHP, Conway High School
Cahill is a 6-foot-3 180-pound left-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He works primarily a two pitches, mixing his 82-85 mph fastball and a 1/7 curveball with late break and depth. Cahill works from an H ¾ arm slot with fast arm. His lack of command at times, comes from lack of repeating the arm circle, other than that his mechanics are sound with repeatable balance and rhythm. Overall Cahill is a physical left-hander that will garner attention from some of the top college programs in the country.
Jakob Henry, LHP, Conway Christian High School
Henry is a 6-foot-4 200-pound left-hander works from a low ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. His arm action is short with some stiffness in it. When he works down in the strike zone he has late sink, which induces groundballs on a consistent basis. He complimented his 80-83 mph fastball with a 2/8 curveball with late break and average depth. Overall Henry is a projectable left-hander with a large frame, if he can clean up the arm-action and some timing issues he will continue to throw harder.
Joey Savin, LHP, Fayetteville High School
Savin is a 5-10 170-pound LHP with an average frame and an athletic build. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean quick arm. He tends to get rotational and shows to be an east west slinger at times. If he stays closed he does a good job creating leverage and commanding the strike zone on a consistent bases. His fastball works 82-84 mph with arm-side run. He throws a slider with depth and 1/7 action at 70-72 mph. Moving forward Savin projects to get better with his frame and clean arm action. Adding strength will help greatly.
Brandon Matros, LHP, Arkadelphia High School
Matros is a 6-foot, 190-pound left-hander. He possess a quick loose arm that works from a H3/4 slot with. He does a good job repeating his mechanics allowing him to throw strikes on a consistent basis. He loses his hip drive due to closing off the front side. He works 83-86 mph with slight sink on his fastball. He throws a change up and curveball for strikes, neither are dominate pitches but are consistent options. A Matros continues to mature he will be a solid pitcher at the next level.
