2016 Uncommitted Prospects: Right Handed Pitchers

As the summer kicks off and all eyes turn to the 2016 class we look at the top available players in this class position by position. Here is a look at the top 5 Right-Handed Pitchers.

Zach Jackson, RHP, Bryant High School
Jackson is a 6-foot-2 230-pound right hander with a large frame and a large build. He primarily pitches with a two pitch combination of his fastball and slider. The fastball is 85-88 mph with boring action. His slider is thrown at 74-77 mph with late sharp break, which dominated hitters this spring. Jackson works from a H3/4 arm slot, with a quick arm. He repeats his mechanics. He needs to improve the body and continue to recover from Tommy John he had just 7 months ago. Overall he is one of the top arms in the 2016 class and should continue to get better as the body and athleticism improve.

Drew Young, RHP, Bentonville High School
Young is a 6-foot-1 205-pound right-hander with a physical build and large frame. He pounds the bottom half of the strike zone with his 86-89 mph with slight run. He flashes a curveball with 11/5 break and late action 70-73 mph, but uses his fastball command for most of his success. Overall Young has good arm strength and repeatable delivery, he is an advanced high school pitcher who should get better overtime.

Ryan Czanstkowski RHP, Mountain Home High School
Czanstkowski is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He works from a H3/4 arm slot with a quick loose arm. His fastball was 83-86 mph with slight arm-side run. He located an 11/5 curveball with early break for strikes thrown at 69-72 mph. His frame will hold more weight and his athleticism says he will throw harder as he continues to develop. He repeats his mechanics which should allow him to throw strikes consistently as he continues to mature.

Ty Gordon, RHP, Greene County Tech High School
Gordon is a 6-foot-5 right hander with a large frame and an average build. Gordon does a good job creating angles using his height pitching at a downhill angle from a H3/4 arm slot. His fastball was 83-86 mph with slight sink. He located a curveball with 11/5 shape and early break. Gordon’s best secondary pitch is his changeup that he throws at near fastball arm speed with arm side run 72-75 mph. Overall Gordon is a big kid that needs to gain strength, he looks young for his class, so he should develop more than the average kid in his class. The arm is clean and uses very little lower half. I believe a sleeper of the 2016 class that may surprise some people in time.

Justin Swecker, RHP, Genoa Central High School
Swecker is a 6-foot-2 200-pound right-hander with a large frame and an average body. Swecker has repeatable and efficient delivery. He works from a H3/4 arm slot with a quick clean arm. His velocity has varied this spring being as high as 84-87 mph and as low as 79-82. As he gains strength I see him being more consistent with velocity. He did consistently throw his 10/4 slider for strikes. He competes on the mound pounding the strike zone and was a work horse for the Dragons throwing 2 complete game no hitters.
