Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

In last week's release of the Updated and Expanded 2021 Player Rankings, we saw a little shake up in the Top 10, as well as throughout the rankings will multiple players making big statements over the summer circuit. LHP Maddux Bruns (UMS-Wright) jumped up from #3 to take over the top spot in Alabama.

This version of the updated rankings was also expanded to 160 players throughout the state, with some players making their respective debuts. PBR Alabama was able to host some elite events that hosted some of the top talent the state has to offer. Today, we want to take a look at some of the players who made the biggest jumps in the rankings after a great summer.

NOTABLE Risers

Max Soliz Jr. C / 1B / Bob Jones , AL / 2021

After making the move from Texas earlier this Spring, Soliz, Jr. made a huge splash onto the scene in Alabama. Got a great look at the Arkansas commit at a workout where we get some TrackMan and Blast numbers. Listed at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Soliz, Jr. is one of the more physically imposing figures in the state. Some elite power from the right side of the plate. Generates some electric bat speed using a controlled-aggressive approach at the dish. Stood out with the bat all summer with 3N2 AR Sticks National. Above average tools behind the plate that projects to be a definite middle of the order bat in the SEC for the Razorbacks. Jumped up to #4 in this update.

Hunter Sute C / OF / American Christian, AL / 2021

Sute had been to multiple PBR events over the past couple of years, but really seemed to jump out to us at the East Coast Sox Scout Day this summer. Advanced tools at the plate with a great feel for the barrel from the left side. Already some present strength that projects for more power in the future. Well-rounded defender behind the plate that posted consistent 1.88-1.90 pop times at the event this summer. Committed to Alabama midway through the summer season. Rose all the way to #16 in this update and checks in right behind Soliz, Jr. as the #2 catcher in class.

AJ Causey RHP / C / Sparkman , AL / 2021

Causey has always been known for his stick at the plate, but really jumped out on the mound in a workout this spring with VBA 17u Black.Ran his fastball up to 90 mph over the top and shows the ability to pitch from different arms slots to provide deception. Slider has hard, late bite to it at 72-24 mph and got multiple swings & misses during live AB's. When throwing from a low-3/4 arm slot, there is some significant sink to the arm side. Committed to Jacksonville State this summer. Jumped up to #24 last week.

Trevor Horne RHP / 1B / Glenwood, AL / 2021

Horne attended the All-State Games in Tuscaloosa, AL almost two years ago and worked up to 82 mph with the fastball, but you could tell there was so much more projection and added velocity to the fastball. Fast-forward to 2020, the 6-foot-4, 185 pound right-handed hurler has seem a significant jump in terms of velocity, as he can run his fastball up to the low-90's on occasions. Secondary stuff plays well off the fastball and shows swing & miss. Committed to Auburn this summer. Up to #27 in this update.

Avery Seaton OF / RHP / Madison Academy, AL / 2021

At this summer's loaded Top Prospect Games event, Seaton easily had one of the better performances out of all the position players. A primary outfielder that can flat out mash at the plate with power to the pull-side. TrackMan numbers really stood out, as he posted the longest distance during BP at 382 ft. to dead center. Uses a strong lower-half to generate power. Barrel stays through the zone and finishes with some lift. Love his upside at the plate. Committed to UAH after the event. Up to #32 in this update.

Colby Hutto SS / RHP / West Morgan, AL / 2021

Hutto really stood out at a loaded Top Prospect Games event in this summer. Has been to multiple showcases in the past and has really seemed to take that next step this summer as he as added some strength and has grown a little bit. Listed at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, Hutto was timed on the laser at 6.60 in the 60, while certainly possessing the strength to compliment the speed with a 94 mph exit velo. Doubled as an arm the mound and posted some high spin rates with the breaking ball (avg. spin rate of 2513 RPM's). Fastball worked up to 86 and has the potential to do both in college. One of the top uncommitted players left in Alabama. Jumped up to #34 in the update.

Landon Leake 2B / RHP / Helena, AL / 2021

Leake attended the very first PBR Alabama event a couple of years ago, and has just seemed to get better at each look. Attended the Top Prospect Games this summer, and impressed with the stick from the right side. Utilizes a small leg kick and just has a great feel for finding the barrel. A great approach to the game that has great instincts and awareness. 6.85 laser-timed 60. Sure-handed the with the glove up the middle and has a chance to stick at SS in the future but can move to 3B/2B. Committed to Southern Union CC shortly after the event. Up to #43 in the recent update.

Stephen Moraski RHP / OF / Oak Mountain, AL / 2021

Moraski was yet another 2021 that impressed at the Top Prospect Games this summer on the mound. Possesses a medium-build at 6-foot, 150 pounds. Moraski shows a great feel for the zone with all four pitches. Fastball worked 86-87, 88 mph with high spin rates that reached 2594 RPM's and was consistently in the zone. Features two breaking balls (slider & curveball) that offered deception and induced some uncomfortable swings during gameplay. Changeup was above average at 79-80 mph with fade to the arm side. Solid with the bat and is a good runner (6.92 60). Still uncommitted and should be coming off the board shortly. Up to #55 in this update.
