Team Alabama Game 2 Quick Hits

Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

Team Alabama dropped Game 2 of the Future Games versus Team Georgia by score of 3-0. Despite the loss, here are some of the top performers in today’s game:

Cole Cheatham, LHP (‘21 Ardmore HS)- After attending our event back in April, Cheatham saw a significant jump in velo by bumping 89 mph in his 2nd inning today. At 6’1 160 lbs, Cheatham possesses a funky delivery with command of his fastball and breaking ball. Sitting 86-89, the young lefty was down in the zone with both pitches. He features a sharp breaking ball at 75-76 mph with 1/7 break. Expect his stock to rise after his performance.

Ellis Yohn, C/RHP (‘21 Smiths Station HS)- In a game where offense came at a premium, Yohn displayed his power in back-to-back AB’s. The physical C smoked a single to CF in the 2nd that was very hard off the bat. In the 2nd AB, Yohn drove another ball to the LCF gap that snuck between the CF’er and RF’er for a double. Nice production today from the rising junior.

Drew Druckenmiller, RHP (‘21 Faith Academy)- Starting on the mound for Alabama, Druckenmiller turned in 2 scoreless frames while displaying quality stuff on the bump. The RHP’er pounded the zone with an effective 3 pitch mix. Fastball (84-86; T88 mph) had some late life at the end and was thrown for strikes. Breaking ball was a quality 2nd pitch to complement his fastball. He also flashed a changeup (78-80 mph) that generated some uncomfortable swings.

Drew Nelson, OF/LHP (‘22 Pike Liberal Arts)- Being one of the few ‘22’s on the squad, Nelson has stepped up his game this week on the mound and offensively. In the 1st, the LHH worked back from an 0-2 count to bring it to 3-2 before sitting back on a breaking ball and shooting it through the 4-hole for a base knock. Nelson hopped on the mound in the 6th and turned in a perfect inning. Fastball was primarily 82-84 mph and topped 86 but was painted at the bottom of the zone. Breaking ball and changeup showed to be both quality pitches for the rising sophomore. Projectable arm with more room to fill out.

Aidan Stewart, SS/RHP (‘21 Next Level Academy)- On the mound in the 7th, Stewart showcased a live arm, sitting 88-91 during his inning of work. Struggled with command, but was able to settle down for his last couple hitters and deliver some strikes. The talent on the bump is still raw, but the tools are there.

Team Alabama will be back at it again tomorrow in their final game of the Future Games vs. Carolinas at 8:15 on Field 13. Click here to access the pitching rotation.
