Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 4

The Alabama Diamond Notes is a new feature for 2022 that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance.
Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Alabama Diamond Notes.
DIAMOND NOTES (MARCH 14-19)
Andrew Batson OF / Hoover, AL / 2022Batson was 7-13 (.482 BA) on the week with two home runs and five runs driven in. He also walked six times and stole three bases. The senior scored eight runs for the 7A No. 2 Bucs. |
Jack Buening OF / C / Sparkman, AL / 2023The uncommitted junior continues to do damage at the plate for the Senators. For the week, Buening was 8-12 (.667 BA) with four doubles, one triple and one home run. he also drove in six runs. |
Colton Atkinson 3B / 1B / Scottsboro , AL / 2023The uncommitted junior had a big week with the bat for the Wildcats. he was 8-13 (.615 BA) with three home runs and five doubles. Atkinson also drove in eight runs. |
Waylon Farr OF / RHP / Scottsboro, AL / 2022The uncommitted senior hit at a .500 clip (7-14) during the week with two home runs and two doubles. The two-way talent also drove in seven runs for the Wildcats. |
Zach Johnson OF / RHP / Moody, AL / 2022The Central Alabama CC recruit had an outstanding week with the bat as he was 10-13 (.769 BA) with four doubles. Johnson also scored seven runs, drove in three runs while swiping two bases. |
Landon Cherry C / RHP / Moody, AL / 2025The freshman continues to produce for Moody as he hit .416 (5-12) for the week, including a home run. He also had a double and drove in six runs. Cherry drew one walk and scored three runs. |
Matthew Cash SS / RHP / Bibb County, AL / 2024Cash produced in a two-way role for the Choctaws. With the bat, he was 7-12 (.583 BA) with one double and one triple. He drove in seven runs, scored six additional and stole a base. On the mound, the sophomore threw 4 innings versus Pelham and got the win giving up two earned runs while striking out five hitters. |
Ryan Revera C / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2022The Wallace-Hanceville CC signee was 11-18 (.611 BA) on the week with two doubles and a triple. He walked three times and drove in seven runs for the 7A No. 8 Patriots. |
Sammy Vander Hill OF / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2023The uncommitted junior was also 11-18 (.611 BA) for the Patriots this week. He had two doubles and two triples while driving in four runs. Vander Hill also scored nine runs and stole seven bases. |
Gracin Wilson SS / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2022Wilson hit .583 (7-12) for the week that included one double. He drove in seven runs and scored five times as well. The senior also walked three times and stole six bases for the Patriots. |
Landon Russell SS / RHP / Central Phenix City, AL / 2022Russell, an Auburn recruit, finds his name on the list again this week after an impressive week. Hit hit .429 (3-7) for the week, which included two home runs and a double. He walked four times, drove in three runs and scored six runs. |
Jax Yoxtheimer OF / RHP / Central Phenix City, AL / 2023The uncommitted junior was 4-7 (.571 BA) with two doubles while driving in four runs. He had two stolen bases and also scored three runs for the 7A No. 3 Red Devils. |
Preston Bedford OF / SS / Central , AL / 2023Just like Yoxtheimer, Bedford was 4-7 (.571 BA) on the week, which included a double and a triple. He drove in five runs for the Red Devils while scoring three runs and swiping two stolen bases. |
Caleb Johnson SS / RHP / Central Phenix City, AL / 2022The Jacksonville State signee hit an even .500 (5-10) for the week. He drove in four runs and scored two additional runs. Johnson, who continues to play shortstop at a high level, also had two stolen bases this week. |
Carter Sheehan SS / OF / Shelby County, AL / 2023Sheehan, an uncommitted junior, was 5-8 (.625 BA) this week. He drove in two runs and scored eight runs for the 5A No. 1 Wildcats. He was also walked twice and was hit-by-pitch three times for a .769 on-base percentage. Sheehan also swiped seven bases. |
JD Hall 1B / Arab, AL / 2023The junior DH was 7-15 (.467 BA) during the week with fourteen runs batted in and two doubles for the Knights. In one game vs. Seymour, TN he was 4-4 with nine runs batted in. |
Ramiro Towers SS / RHP / Madison County, AL / 2022Towers, an Anderson University recruit, continues to pace the Tiger offensive attack. This week he was 11-19 (.579 BA) with four doubles and two runs batted in. He scored five runs and also had five stolen bases. |
Jackson Prickett SS / RHP / Priceville, AL / 2023Prickett produced in a two way role for the Bulldogs as he was 8-12 (.667 BA) with the bat. This included three doubles, four runs batted in and ten runs scored. He also stole five bases. On the mound, he threw six innings and was 1-0 on the week with eight strikeouts, three hits allowed and no earned runs. |
Wes Walker C / 3B / Priceville , AL / 2024The sophomore hit .615 (8-13) on the week with four doubles. He also drove in ten runs and scored five runs for the 4A No. 9 Bulldogs. |
Thomas Kerby LHP / 1B / Priceville, AL / 2023Kerby tossed 2 innings on the mound this week and struck out six hitters. He did not allow a walk or run, while giving up one hit. Offensively, Kerby was 8-11 (.727 BA) with a double and six runs batted in. He also scored six runs and drew two walks. |
Colton Pahman 1B / RHP / Faith Christian , AL / 2022Pahman was 4-9 (.444 BA) with three doubles and three runs drive in. He also scored three runs and drew four walks. On the mound, the right-hander went six innings with no earned runs and six strikeouts. |
Joseph Stephens RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024The sophomore 3B hit .545 (6-11) for the week with a double and three runs driven in. He also scored three runs and had a .583 on-base percentage for the 6A No. 4 Dolphins. |
Marc Stephens SS / RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2022Stephens, a Mississippi Gulf Coast CC recruit, hit an even .500 (4-8) for the week. Three of his four hits went for doubles and also drove in a run. He also scored four runs and had a .636 on-base percentage. |
Grant Browning C / Tuscaloosa County, AL / 2023Browning delivered in a two-way role this week for the 7A No. 7 Wildcats. On the mound, Browning was 1-0 with four innings pitched. He did not allow a run and struck out nine hitters in a 1-0 victory over Faith Academy. The junior was also 3-6 (.500 BA) with two doubles with the bat. |
Jack Campbell RHP / Hoover, AL / 2022Once again, Campbell delivered in a big way on the mound for the Bucs in a 1-0 win over Hueytown. The Snead State recruit earned a complete game win as he faced only 23 hitters over those seven innings. He struck out eight and only allowed one hit. |
Carter Wells RHP / 1B / Sparkman, AL / 2023The uncommitted junior gave the Senators a quality outing in the PBR Stateline Showdown as he went 1-0 with a complete game win over Lincoln County (TN). He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out ten. Wells also homered in the game. |
Andrew Goodwin RHP / 1B / Moody, AL / 2022Goodwin, a Lawson State recruit, went 1-0 on the week with five innings pitched in a win over Briarwood. He gave up five hits, allowed one earned run and struck out six. He only issued one walk. |
Jacob Wilhide OF / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2022Wilhide, a senior, went 1-0 on the week for the 7A No. 8 Patriots. He turned in a complete game win (7 IP) and only allowed one hit. He did not allow a run and struck out twelve hitters. |
Bryson Goff LHP / 1B / Saraland , AL / 2023The uncommitted junior southpaw continues to turn in quality innings for the 6A No. 5 Spartans as he delivered a complete game shutout win over 7A No. 1 Auburn. Goff scattered seven hits and struck out six in the 3-0 win. |
Thrasher Steed RHP / 1B / Gulf Shores, AL / 2022The Chipola CC recruit continues to give the 6A No. 4 Dolphins quality start after quality start. This week was no exception as he twirled a complete game no-hitter versus Ethel (MS). Over those seven innings, Steed struck out 12 hitters and did not allow a walk. |
