Canadian ProCase: Scouting Notes
August 30, 2022
On August 17th we setup shop at Kings Christian Collegiate in Oakville for the 2022 PBR Canada ProCase, the first of it's kinda. After having the ProCase wiped out the past two years due to COVID-19, we kicked it up a notch this year inviting players from across the country for the first time ever.
In attendance we had players from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and B.C. and to add some flair, there were several Canadians who play predominantly in the U.S.
Prospects had the chance to showcase their talents in front of a dozen pro scouts and a handful of pro organizations. Below, we begin to highlight the standouts from the event.
Jack Lines SS / Foothills Composite, AB / 2024
Rankings OverallRank: 189 / POS: 43
Lines, 6-foot ,170-pound SS was 1 of 2 Alberta prospects that attended the Preseason ProCase in Oakville, Ontario. In BP, Lines showcased his compact swing that stays through the zone for a long time. His flat bat path allowed him to hit almost everything on a line and for some pull side power. In the fields, its elite footwork and hands through the ball. He glides around the infield with carry on his throws across the diamond. During gameplay, Line got on base a few times with hits/walks and it seemed like almost every time he stole both 2B and 3B, he flew around the bases. The Tennessee commit showed why he is one of the elite prospects in the 2024 class in Canada.

Matthew Donnison RHP / OF / St. Paul Catholic, ON / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 4
Donnison, 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, threw an impressive inning this past week in Oakville at the Preseason ProCase. Donnison showcased a heavy 88-91 mph FB that got on hitters quickly. His sharp SL generated multiple uncomfortable swings and kept the hitters off-balance in the box at 79-82 mph. He showed pitchability being able to locate the FB on the corners and elevate when he wanted. The recent Illinois State commit is one of the top arms in Ontario’s 2023 class.

Keegan O'Hearn OF / LHP / O'Neill CVI, ON / 2022
Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 3
O’Hearn, 6-foot-5, 210-pounds immediately stood out with his long, athletic frame when he walked into the park. He was the big winner of the night, showcasing 2-way potential. In the box, he had an electric round of BP hitting line-drive after line-drive up the middle and to RF, leaving the yard multiple times. He capped off his hitting performance by hitting a no-doubter out to RF. On the mound, he threw from a /4 slot with a long arm action. His FB was 97-89 T91 and jumped out of his hand. It was a slow CB at 65-68 that got swing and miss. It’s safe to say the JNT member has upside on both sides of the ball.

Alex Kean 1B / RHP / St Marys, ON / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 1
Kean, 6-foot-4, 220-pounds, stood out on both sides of the ball at the Preseason ProCase. In the box, Kean shows easy juice to his pull side where he hit multiple out in BP, as well as a HR in gameplay. His wide base and leg kick allow him to get on time and catch the ball out front, where it flies off his bat. The Morehead State commit stepped on the mound and showcased a 84-87 mph FB that shows some life out of the hand and some arm side run. He mixed in his 75-77 mph CB that allowed him to get soft contact off the bat. Kean is one of the better power bats in the 2023 class in Ontario.

Logan Melo 3B / 1B / John Paul II, ON / 2025Melo, 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, was the most physical young player we had to the Preseason ProCase. He immediately stands out among players in his class in the box with juice to his pull side. He took a very mature round of BP, using the whole field and driving pitches to the wall in both left and right field on a line. There’s present strength and ability to get the ball in the air with consistent hard contact. Melo is one of the top bats in the 2025 class.

Robert Orr SS / 3B / St. Georges, BC / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 4
Orr, 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, was 1 of 2 prospects from BC that attended our Preseason ProCase in Oakville, ON. The athletic body plays in the box and in the field, where he moves well for his size. In the box, he has the ability to hit to all fields with some juice. He uses a toe-tap for timing and is able to get his hands into a launch position with a flat bat path through the zone. In the field, he has clean hands and shows the ability to make the difficult play. Orr is an intriguing prospect out of BC that stood out for Team BC and the Canada Games last week, as well.
