2023 West Coast Games: Quick Hits

The West Coast Games is a one-of-a-kind event featured the best uncommitted Class of 2024 & select 2025 prospects from throughout the West Region that had been identified by each of the state’s scouting directors. This years event featured top prospects from Arizona, Canada, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
A premier event for uncommitted rising upperclassmen on the West Coast, the PBR West Coast Games gave an unparalleled opportunity to each player in attendance by delivering a “one-stop-shop” for college coaches to recruit in the city of Las Vegas. Beyond the on-looking eyes of scouts and coaches, PBR’s unmatched coverage and commitment to elevating players via advanced metrics and technology (Trackman, Blast Motion, Swift Performance and Vizual Edge), along with multiple social media platforms, providing elite exposure for each player in attendance.

Jacob Wallace RHP / 1B / Chene Bleu Pincourt, QC / 2024The Canadian Junior National Team and Academie de Baseball Canada product was one of the better arms at the event and he showed why during his 3 innings of work. His fastball got up to 89.4 mph, sitting comfortably in the 85-88 mph range. However, due to his extension down the mound of 7.4 feet, his effective velocity was 89.4 mph, which was 2nd best at the event. This helped Wallace create lots of in-zone swing & miss. The curveball, coming in at 68-71 mph and topping out at 72 mph, has impressive vertical depth and horizontal break to it. The two-plane pitch has the makings to be an effective swing & miss offering, both in and out of the zone. The 2024 will be an intriguing follow as he continues to develop.

Maxime Boies SS / 2B / Ecole Secondaire Pointe-levy, QC / 2025Boies was one of several standouts for the Canadian team at the West Coast Games. It started at the SS position. His ability to read balls off the bat, generate a quick first step, and create easy hops are what set him apart. His soft hands and efficient foot work allow him to get into a throwing position in a timely manner to get the ball across the infield. At the dish, bat speed, a short swing, and an efficient swing plane make for impressive bat to ball skills. He showed off his ability to drive the ball with authority as well, finding his pull-side gap a couple times in-game for extra bases, and hitting a max exit velocity of 100.3 during the workout. One of the more under-the-radar players in the 2025 class broke out this week and will be a must follow going forward.

Alexandre Laurence C / 2B / Vauxhall, AB / 2025The Vauxhall Academy product was one of the top showcased 2025’s at the West Coast event. He was a spark plug to Team Canada in Vegas and contributed on both sides of the ball. A catcher by trade, Laurance showcased his defense versatility playing 3B/2B as well. With his quick feet and transfers behind the plate Laurence saw his pop time go as low as 1.91. During the West Coast Games workout, he launched balls beyond the fence going as far as 366ft. Laurence also added a statement swing in the first inning vs Nevada, crushing a solo HR to left field. Don’t let his 5-foot-6 frame fool you, this kid is a spark plug defensively and offensively.

Charles Lavigne 1B / RHP / C�gep Lionel-Groulx, QC / 2024The 2024 Quebec native was one of the most intriguing two way players of the West Coast Games. Lavigne, a 1B/RHP, made an immediate presence with his BP round, not to mention a physical presence with his 6-foot-5 200lbs frame. In the workout, his EV ranged from upper 90’s to low 100’s. Lavigne topped the West Coast Games highest EV of 107.4mph. With long levers, on plane efficiency and elite hand speed, he consistently barreled up pitchers in all three games. In just his second at bat of the weekend, he hit a towering HR into the trees in RCF off Team Washington. On the mound, Lavigne worked well down the mound with an over the top arm slot. With a quick and whippy arm action his FB sat 86-87 mph and topped out at 89.1mph while his CB was 70-73. No shortage of projectability in this uncommitted 2024.

Remi Lemay OF / 3B / Chene-Bleu, QC / 2024The uncommitted outfielder from ABC had one of the better overall weekends at the dish for the Canada Selects. He possesses one the best hit tools in the 2024 class and that was on full display in Vegas. He uses a balanced approach with controlled aggression to spray the ball all over the field. During his round of BP on the workout day, he hit multiple out and reached a max exit velocity of 101.6 mph. In the outfield, he has a strong arm with carry reaching an OF velocity of 88 mph. Lemay opened some eyes at the West Coast Games, and will continue to do so going forward.
