VA Underclass Games 6/20/18
Payne is 6-2 with a strong lower half. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands on line with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-74, touching 76, with downward angle and some late run. Curveball was 64-66 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 66-69 with good armspeed and some run.
10.23.16 - Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds. Ran a 8.60 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, square set up. Shows rhythm and balance in swing. Level bat path to contact. Cuts off top hand at times through finish. Exit velocity of 66mph. Sound feet and hands in the field. Showed good lateral movement. Compact arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Throws across the diamond at 59mph…Pitched at 64-66mph topping out at 68mph. Throws from an over the top arm slot with average effort. Delivery showed good rhythm, uses an over the head hand lift into pivot with slight counter rotation of the body in leg lift. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with average rotation and downward action. Threw breaking ball at 57-60mph. Showed some feel with the changeup that had near fastball arm speed. Threw changeup at 61-62mph with some sink and run on it.
