Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
1/21/18 Initiates swing from open set up with stride to neutral. Subtle early hand leak reduces separation. Hands work well to baseball and Beatty shows ability to stay behind ball creating leverage at contact. Lower half is passive in weight shift and hip turn. Beatty made swing play in bp routinely squaring the baseball. A bat exit velocity of 78 mph was recorded.
Defensively, demonstrated soft hands and good technique in framing. Beatty presents soft wall with solid upper body angle in blocking. Transfer is clean while throwing motion could be shortened.
7/26/16 6-foot, 230-pound strong build. Ran an 8.12 60-yard dash. At the plate he starts in a balanced setup before his simple stride forward. His bat tip gives him a little extra barrel whip through the zone as he takes an uphill path to the ball. Worked well to his pull side in batting practice. Reached a top exit velocity of 78 mph. Behind the plate he recorded pop times of 2.18-2.21, and threw with 68 mph arm strength. Footwork is efficient and transfer skills are adequate. Pop times should get lower as arm strength increases.
7/19/16 6-foot, 230-pound prospect. At the plate he starts in a tall setup before using a double tap for load and timing. Hands stay simple before taking a short compact path to the ball. Could get more out of his lower half. Above average strength and batspeed at this stage. Top exit velocity was 80 mph. Behind the plate he recorded pop times of 2.08-2.17, while showing efficient footwork with a quick transfer. Throws were accurate to second base with 70 mph arm strength. At third base he threw across the infield with 69 mph arm strength, working through a high-¾ slot. Showed confidence in his glove.
