Notes

Comments

7/11/18 Defensively, hands and feet are adequate around the bag. There is intermittent tendency to work top down. 6-foot-3 frame as left-handed thrower plays well at 1B.

Offensively, 6-foot-3 210 pound right-handed hitter initiates swing from slightly open set up with short stride to neutral. Hands are loose, quick and direct to the baseball. Separation is reduced by passive weight shift and hip turn. Watts gets and maintains bat on plane early and late in hitting zone. Barrel feel was present with consistent squaring of ball during round of BP. A bat exit velocity of 83 mph was registered. Hand speed suggests considerable untapped power potential in accordance with greater use of lower half.

On the mound, the left-hander works out of a mid 3/4 arm slot with a repeatable low effort delivery. He is able to effectively utilize his long frame to achieve solid downhill plane to his pitches. Fastball sat 76-77 mph and was commanded with consistent run and sink. Curveball at 66-68 mph showcased 1/7 shape with moderate depth. Changeup was thrown with adequate sell and consistent arm side fade. Watts demonstrated ability to command his secondary offerings to all quadrants.
