2021 MLB Draft: A 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete, Stevens is an all-around player, a do-it-all type. He has some pop in his right-handed bat, currently operating as a gap-to-gap machine, leading his team with 19 doubles this season while hitting .333. He also plays sterling defense at short, where he has a plus arm and smooth actions, giving him a chance to stick at the position in pro ball despite his unusual size for the spot. He's also an above-average runner, which allowed him to swipe 12 bags this spring.
At 6-foot-4, 200 pounds Portland shortstop Chad Stevens is athletic and quickly passes the eye test. He showed a plus arm from all angles and solid actions on the dirt. After a solid sophomore season at the plate (.284/350/.422) for the Pilots, he got into a slump this summer and could not get out of it. He finished with a .247 batting average and just two extra base hits in 77 at-bats. With a strong season this spring, he could play himself into Day Two consideration.
