Rivera has a strong, physical frame at 6-foot-3, 260 pounds and is an intimidating presence on the mound with how he attacks hitters. He pumps his heater at 92-95 mph, imparting good late life and occasional sink. His power slider at 83-86 can flash plus, featuring deception, tight spin and hard, late-breaking diving action. Rivera is still developing his changeup, but the pitch can be nasty at 85-86 with sinking action. Repeats his delivery and throws strikes and knows how to change planes to miss barrels. Tough competitor. Should be a riser on scouts’ lists. Potential middle-of-the-rotation guy at the Major League level.

The senior power arm stands around 6-foot-3 with a strong athletic frame. Rivera comes at you and shows no backing off of any hitter in any count. Rivera throws from a three-quarter slot with a long full arm action and arm is fluid throughout with quick arm speed. The fastball sat at 85-88 mph and got up to 89 mph a few times on the day. Did not have a great feel for the fastball early, but it got better as the game progressed. The one issue that Rivera has had in the past is a lack of a secondary pitch, but that wasn't the case today. Showed two breaking balls, a slider and a curveball. He threw both for strikes and relied on them heavily, especially when he struggled with fastball command. The curveball had a bigger slower break 69-72 mph with 11/5 shape and it tended to finish to the arm side. Slider appeared to be the better of the two breakers and he threw it with present arm speed. The slider sat at 75-77 early and was able to run it up to 81-82 mph a few times with hard late life. Was impressed by Rivera's improvement with the offspeed pitches.

Rivera is 6-3 with an athletic frame that still has projection to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, loads back with a slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate and maintains balance to his swing. Very strong, gets barrel to contact and muscles through the ball with good extension through the ball. Line drive swing, power to all fields when he extends, exit velocity was 100. High finish creates backspin and carry. In the outfield, gets body behind it and works through it, clean exchange. Throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot with a quick loose arm action, strong arm outfield velocity was 92. On the mound throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a longer arm action that is free is and very quick, generates velocity with normal effort, can get a bit more when he amps the effort up. Shoulders uphill and closed, swings leg into an on line landing, slight fall off finish with some recoil. Fastball was 88-90, with some plane and hard late boring action to armside. Curveball was 76-77 with hard 11/5 break, pitch can still sharpen some more as he throws it harder. Slider was 79-82 with sharp late break, some 10/4, some downer, good armspeed. Change-up was 79-81 with some late fade to it and good armspeed. All four pitches have a chance to be very good, still some developing left to do.

Rivera created buzz this summer showing off an electric fastball that was up to 93 mph this summer and was reportedly higher at times. The arm strength is there on this talented right-hander, its seeing how well his secondary and command improve this upcoming spring as to how his pro potential can fill out this 2019 season.
12.2.16 - Rivera is a projectable prospect on the mound with his frame and fast arm speed. Has some mechanical adjustments to make, but flashes top end arm speed with a fastball that has been up to 87 mph and given time with frame can add to that making for a potential high end arm.
7.31.16: Rivera has an athletic frame. In the field, has a loose, strong arm that is accurate. Good footwork and doesn’t rush. Hits from the right side, athletic stance with load back and big leg kick stride. Decent balance throughout swing and quick hands with above average bat speed. Easy doubles power with potential for more.
