89.0
Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
6-foot-2, 215-pound physical athlete. On the mound it is a delivery that builds pace and intent. Full arm circle and throws from a very low three-quarter arm slot. The fastball sat 90-93 in the first and touched 94 a few times with big arm side run. When runners got on in the first he dialed it back a few pitches to 88-89 mph, but later on was back up to the 90-92 range with runners on. The slider was 80-83 mph throughout with hard 10/4 break. Flashed a few changeups at 81-83 mph. Stieg was a little scattered in the first. The fastball was working to the arm side with a lot of run at times. Settled a bit in the second and was much more efficient in the zone. The slider stayed down in the zone for a large majority of his outing and has some swing and miss tendencies, but did not get a lot of swing and misses on the slider partly because it was not in the zone consistently. Stieg's stuff and arm slot combines for some of the most uncomfortable at bats of any pitcher in the state and offers a lot of intrigue because he brings some things to the table that not many offer.

Stieg is a Virginia Tech commit and is 6-2 with a strong physical athletic frame. Crossfire drop and drive delivery, lands closed with an athletic finish. Creates some deception, hides the ball behind his body as he breaks, shoulders are level closed as he strides out. Throws from a very low three-quarters slot, just barely a tick above sidearm. Short loose very quick arm action with normal effort to his delivery. Fastball was 91-93 with late hard armside run that had some depth, spin rate was right around 2400. Also showed a 2-seamer at 91-92 with a bit more life. Slider had great armspeed and was 83-84 with late hard 10/4 break to it, flashed swing and miss when buried down and spin rate was typically right around 2450. Changeup was 83-85 with great armspeed and heavy late fade to it that almost resembled hard fork/splitter action and showed some swing and miss potential. Was around the zone with all three pitches and showed feel for them.

Stieg is a Virginia Tech commit and has a strong athletic projectable frame. At the plate, hits from the right side from an open stance. Shows discipline at the plate and has a quick swing with strength at contact. Power present to all fields and showed a feel for getting barrel on the ball even when he was a bit off balance. Four at-bats in the game, he was walked in two of them, in the other two had well hit groundouts deep in counts. He was pitched very carefully all game and the strikezone was rather large and wide. On the mound, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose very quick arm action with some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, lands on line with some fall off in his finish and a bit of recoil. Fastball was 87-91, touching 93 once, pitch has some downward angle and a bit of late armside run to it. Held his velocity throughout the game. Fastball was 87-90, touching 91 in the first, in the third he was 88-89 and touched a 93. In the sixth he was sitting 88-90 and touching 91 and his last three pitches of the sixth inning were 90, 91, and 90. Slider was 71-76 with good armspeed and sharp hard 11/5 break. Didn't have his feel of it early in the game but found it in the middle innings and started throwing it harder where it flashed swing and miss. Change-up was 77-80 with good armspeed and heavy fade, very good pitch that gets swing and misses.

Stieg has an athletic frame with plenty of strength present and projection left to it. Drop and drive delivery, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose, very quick arm action. Fastball was 87-90, touching 91, pitch sat 89-90 for the bulk of his outing, gets heavy sink with some boring action to armside as well. Added a slider in the offseason with great armspeed, pitch was 76-80 with late hard 10/4 break, flashed swing and miss.

Stieg is a recent Virginia Tech commit and is one of the top prospects in VA/DC in the 2022 class and he showed that in this game, on the mound, in the outfield, and at the plate. Defensively, he played centerfield, he gets good breaks on balls and takes good routes, ran a few balls down over his head that I didn't think were going to get caught. Arm has some carry and should develop into a very strong arm as he gets stronger. At the plate, has a short, fast swing with a whippy bat, good balance to his lower half and he is barrel aware. Lots of projection left to him and simple swing, has a chance to have a very good power/speed combination that would make him a prototypical two or three type hitter at the next level. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and normal to some effort to his delivery. Stays on line, lands square and falls off as he finishes. Fastball was 81-85, touching 87 one time. Was 83-85 in the windup, dropped to 81-82 when he was in the stretch. Pitch has downward angle and late tail to it. Showed a change-up at 73 with some armspeed and late fade. Curveball was 67-70 with good armspeed and sharp 11/5 break.

Stieg is 6-2 with a lanky frame, he hits from the right side from a more upright balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, short smoot load back, good quiet rhythm to set up. Violent lower half with some balance to swing. Very short to ball, quick hands that stay inside, fast bat with extension through the ball, slightly uphill path. Line drive swing with gap power and potential for more as he fills out, exit velocity was 85. In the outfield, good feet and gets behind the ball well, fields it with above average hands and pushes through into his transfer. Quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short loose quick arm action, outfield velocity was 80. Ran a 7.12 60 yard dash. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a longer free, loose arm that is quick, generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands on line with athletic finish, very smooth simple delivery. Fastball was 76-78, touching 80, with heavy armside run. Change-up was 67-70 an thrown with some armspeed, pitch had heavy fading action. Curveball was 64-66 and thrown with some armspeed, pitch had late 11/5 break and has a chance to be really good.
