VA/DC Scout Blog

Shartzer is a big mature frame standing around 6-foot-4. Was probably the most effective and efficient pitcher on the day. Shartzer worked a quick inning in the fourth. Fastball was 79-82 hitting 83 once and was consistent around the zone. Curveball showed a 10/4 shape and sat at 71-73 mph with some feel. Biggest takeaway is Shartzer had a presence on the mound. He liked to work quick. When he got the ball back he was ready to attack hitters with the next pitch, but when hitters called time to throw his rhythm off he maintained composure and kept attacking.

Shartzer is 6-4 with an athletic frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with longer loose arm action that has some quickness and some effort. Tall and fall delivery, shoulders uphill and online, lands on line with fall off finish. Fastball was 81-83, touching 84, with good downhill plane and hard late run. Curveball was 69-72 with hard 11/5 break and good armspeed. Showed a change-up during warm-ups with some armspeed and fade.

7.31.16:  Shartzer hits from the right side with good batspeed. He strides open and has a pull approach. Longer swing path after casting hands, but quick hands make up for a it a bit. Very strong.
